Review Abstract
Described as "pricey" and having "awesome graphics" the Burton Balance is an eye catcher. The board is stiff, rides edge to edge well, and is praised for speed. Some owners expressed frustration that the top sheet. It scratches easily and the board lacks speeds in deep powder. Most owners still consider this as a board you can have a good time with.

Price Paid:  $430.00 at outlet park

Favorite place to ride:
Adelboden or Leukerbad in Switzerland (in fact, all spots in the swiss-alps)

Riding Style:
All Mountain/Freeride

Product Year:
2000

Summary:
Great grip
Great response
Great edge to edge quickness

I recommend this board to everyone who goes for the park but also loves to turn tight and fast! acceleration is great but at a certain speed it gets nervous.

Cause its a very slim board, powdering uses much power and strength. But even then response and speed is good!

Strengths:
Good grip
Tight and fast turns
Slim construction for quick edge to edge switches
Very fast acceleration

Nice Designs!

Weaknesses:
Uses much power and strengt in Backcountry

Price Paid:  $200.00 at eBay

Favorite place to ride:
Mammoth

Riding Style:
All Mountain/Freeride

Product Year:
2000

Summary:
Good all-around deck. Pleasantly surprised at how well it handles freeride. Its "feel" is actually very similar to the Burton Custom (good response, stable, can carve the long and short turns); except the Custom is a little better in freeride mode and the Balance is better at jibbing.

Strengths:
I'm not really into jibbing but I hit the park with this and found it good for getting air and landing. For freeriding, it's actually pretty stable -- it doesn't look for the edge like other freesytle decks so I didn't have to worry about catching one. The response is excellent, as is the ability to turn long and short.
It excels in getting that short burst of speed in SHORT distance to get you from one hit to the next.

Weaknesses:
Expensive. People like Burton. People like the Balance. So the shops charge top $ for them.

Away from the park, speed is not the Balance's friend. Basically, the only weakness I can find is that it chatters at mach speed. But quite stable at normal speed. The point is if you want to be the first one down the mountain, you should not use a freestyle deck.
