Description Completely at home hitting kickers in the park. Plenty of edge and pop for the pipe. Aggressive dimensions for powerful freeriding. As Dave Downing says, "I can fly to any resort in the world and if I...
Review Abstract “This has to be the best freestyle/freeride board around—it matches up with the deepest powder and the steepest pipe walls in a manner unparalleled by other freestyle/freeride boards,” raves one boarder. Reviewers say the Burton Custom is “flexible enough to eat up hits and bumps” and yet still provides a “smooth transition from jump to landing.” Blessed with the “right amount of sidecut,” it has a “fast base” that makes it, along with the Burton Canyon, favorites among boarders. One boarder says he “was surprised how much air this board generated.” Boarders scoffed at the idea of weaknesses. The Custom can “withstand numerous falls,” is “agile” and has “miraculous handling.”
Summary: Actually, I'm reviewing the '04 Model, but this sight needs to be redone. I have only ridden this board for one day but I am certain that this is the best board I have ever ridden by a long shot. It made me perform 150% better just for having it. It is a little pricey, but easily justified when you consider that it's the best. I felt as though this board compensated my every mistake, and still obeyed my every whim. Sharp on the edges, but buttery on the turns. Extremely fast base but stops on a dime. Solid, but light as a feather. It made snowboarding itself a better sport. I can't wait to take it out again. I don't think this is the sort of board a beginner would get, because of the price, but if a beginner got this board I'm sure he would not be able to ride anything else without laughing.
Strengths: Everything.
Weaknesses: pricey, not indestructable though it seems to be very durable.
Summary: I've only been riding for 2 years, so I can't comment on other boards (this is my first). However, I have skiied for over 30 years and I have a good sense whether equipment is good or bad. This board rocks! It's super fast. It carves tight, it's snappy if you want it to be, but it can cruise too. As I have progressed, I appreciate the board more and more -- it will not hold your ability back. It is as good as everyone raves.
Strengths: -- Super fast
-- Very responsive turning
-- Builds confidence
-- Will not stunt your ability
Weaknesses: None. I got it on sale, so the price was not an issue for me.

Summary: I'm 5 10 and 160 pounds with size 10 boot. This board is by far the best board I've ever owned and ridden. When I first used it I was amazed that I could hold an edge that well.
Strengths: Quick ass board. Everything about it is great. I agree with everything AlexV said.
Weaknesses: zip

Summary: The 2001 Custom 164.5 was my 2nd board after the 2001 Charger 156. What a difference! On my Charger I was washing out and skipping out on really hard carves. The Charger couldn't hold a hard edge on the ice we have out here on the east coast. I guess the guy at the store was right when he said i'd outgrow the Charger after a couple of times riding. The Custom, on the other hand...
It took me a couple of runs before I could get used to the length and stiffness of the Custom. Once I got used to it, though - this thing rides like a dream.
...Rail a hard carve down some east coast ice and crud, no worries. The Custom is right there with ya. This board improved my riding 110%. The stability it has raised my confidence to go faster and harder down the slope.
Slow riders beware! The 164.5 length does bring with it some serious speed. After getting this thing waxed, it hauls serious ass! Some of my friends likened the ride to "Drivin' a Cadillac"...long, smooth, and crusing along. Don't be scared to just point this thing and bomb down some diamonds.
The Custom does also have some nice pop - thanks to the carbon I-beam down the center, but unfortunately I think my length of 164.5 is a bit too long to be throwing and spinning around off kickers. Taking small jumps off rollers, though, you can get a nice ollie and a solid landing.
The Custom is stiffer than my Charger or Seven, but still softer than a Balance/Rush or Dragon. It truly is an all-around board.
Strengths: Stable, smooth ride. Good pop and flex for an all-around board (not strictly freestyle). Good edge grip freeriding on east coast crud/ice.
Weaknesses: None really. Maybe if I bought a shorter one, it would be better in the park.
