Summary: I purchaed the jacket (online). When it arrived, it didn't look like much, but has far surpassed my expectations for waterproofness and wind resistance. I keep it in my truck for these humid, rainy days we have down here in La. It's perfect for the weather conditions here (rainy, humid, low temps. about 40 degrees). It gets a lot of use.

Summary: For day hiking and backpacking, I recommend the north face hydrenaline. This jacket is tough, it can resist strong winds and rains... based on my experince.

Summary: I've had my North Face Hydrenaline jacket since March of '98, and for the most part things have been really rosy. My main outdoor interest is mountain biking, and this jacket is just a bit too warm for biking in most pleasant conditions. It's also just a bit too light for even some fall and spring conditions unless worn with a fleece underneath. It's pretty durable, most of the stretch cords in my jacket are stretched but there are no tears in it. It's a good product, but I just wish the North Face would have made a choice to either make it heavier or lighter... I find it's just too warm for aerobic activities in decent (10 degree C) weather, but too cold for ugly fall/spring days.

Summary: I bought the long version of this jacket, and even though it is only billed as water-resistant, I found it to withstand some pretty serious rain. Whether I was trail running or sitting by the pool as a lifeguard in the rain, this jacket greatly surpassed my expectations, especially for a relatively inexpensive North Face product.
