My preference is white gas stoves (Coleman Apex II) but I went over to the dark side of canister stoves in 2013 so as to lighten my pack weight when backpacking. I did a lot of online research before deciding on this little unit. It's small and compact, comes in a sturdy plastic case which fits easily into a small saucepan and, with 10,000 BTU, brings things to a boil very efficiently. My main criteria was simmer-ability and this indeed does so very well. The igniter took some adjusting to get it to work right and if you need to do the same do so with caution as the tip can be easily broken. I suggest you use two pairs of long nose pliers to minimize the stress applied.

Another suggestion is to avoid using a wrap-around windscreen as these can cause overheating of the canisters with unpleasant results. Snow Peak offers its own windscreen which fits over the pot supports and I find it works well.

In summary, I like this stove very much and would recommend it without reservation for those in the market for a canister stove. I still prefer the white gas stoves when paddling but the main reason for that is the cost and environmental considerations of canisters.

Customer Service

Excellent! Called recently as I lost the little screw that attaches the igniter and they sent me a replacement right away and were very pleasant.
