This rod gets it done. Have only had it for a few monthes. I use it to catch trout on dries and nymphs. I have landed a 10lb steelhead on this 6wt, not a ton of backbone but it got the job done with out breaking 6lb tippet. The action is med/fast, can load quickly, but cast 70+ ft with ease. I will be using this rod as my shallow water smallmouth rod too. I cant put it down.

Strength:

feels great in hand without being to light. sensitive butt section. really shoots and handles line well even hard to handle sinking lines

Weakness:

could improve on cork handle.

for the money I feel it is the best rod on the market. A great med/fast action stiff rod. well suited for aggressive casting styles.

Strength:

flat finish a plus keeps a low profile when fish are near and a quick cast is needed, smooth casting, generates line speed without hauling the line, and has great control on long casts,a winner all the way.The travel size rods are small and pack easy, not to mention featherlite!

Weakness:

None this is the best rod Ive touched.I actually love to just practice with it.

The St Croix Avid is a vast improvement over the Imperial, which is a great rod in its own way.I noticed how versatile this rod truly is,it generates line speed instsantly and is extremely light and the rod action is nothing short of phenominal.I was actually headed out to buy the orvis TLS until an older gent recommended the avid.Boy was he right,I got the same action, and quality, for 100$ less.Like I said I owned the imperial for years now and it was my fav. That was until I fell into some cash and studied catalogs for weeks, but test a St. Croix avid when you look to upgrade,it doesn't cost a fortune for the best.I have the 4 piece travel rod and it is very easy to pack,I keep it under the front seat of my car its so small! And its a 9 ft 6wt.

Strength:

Great action that cuts through wind and hauls wonderfully. Also roll casts well for a medium-fast action. Looks pretty good, nice matte finish that won''t spoke fish with glare. Beautiful woven graphite and aluminium reel seat. Lightweight.

Weakness:

The cork grip is pretty good with some fills but this rod would be slightly improved with a better grip

The StCroix Avid is a great rod for the money. It has a medium-fast action which is great for casters who want the rod to load quickly but don''t want the risk of breaking the tippet when setting the hook (as some fast action rods do). I highly suggest this rod.

Customer Service
