Strength:

Fish fighting ability, Winston workmanship

Weakness:

A little too soft in the tip for me. Sage XP and Loomis GLX much easier to cast in the wind or with heavy flies.

Soft tip, and great fish fighting ability. With heavy flies and in the wind, it's not the greatest. Great fit, finish, and workmanship

Customer Service

A little slow to receive the rod back after I broke a tip. But got the rod back in perfect condition

Strength:

Action, finish, lifting power, casting ability, portability, lightness, solid contruction.

Weakness:

price new, not quite as able to control a strong fish near a boat as some 9-weights

I can''t say enough good about the BL5, although I wonder why it''s under FW rods. I''ve caught bonefish, false albacore, stripers, bluefish, mackerel, and other fish with it. Once I learned to adjust to its slow action (don''t know why Winston thinks it''s fast) I did much better casting it. It throws a TS 350 line like a bullet, 80 feet is no prblem. And terrific lifting power, amazing how it can lift strong fish like false albacore from a boat. Soft action makes it a joy to cast all day.
