I've fished just about every single rod out there. I am one of the few younger guides I know that prefer a medium action fly rod. This is one of the smoothest casting rods ever made. My 8'9" 5 weight is my favorite fly rod of all time.

Customer Service

Broken it 6 times. No problem.

Strength:

Winston life-time warranty service! I am embarrassed to admit that I have managed to twice break my 5-weight, and both times the Winston factory technicians turned around a repair for me (for only shipping & handling charges) that was "better than new". The Winston LT rods don''t come cheap, but I figure that I will be happy using this rod for the rest of my fishing-life.

Weakness:

I don''t consider it a weakness---but if you want a faster-action 5-piece Trout rod you may want to consider the Sage SP 5-piece. I use a Sage SP 5-piece 8-weight for my Steelhead rod. But for traditional trout fishing, I still prefer the LT line and the Winston action.

The 5-piece Winston LT rod is pretty close to state-of-the-art for a trout rod today. I have grown so fond of my 5-weight (8''9"), that I eventually found a 4-weight (6''9") LT that I use for small stream and creek fishing.
