Black Diamond Megamid Tent Floor Bivy Tents

Black Diamond Megamid Tent Floor Bivy Tents

DESCRIPTION

For all of the talk about why a tent without a floor is the footloose, fancy-free way to travel, there are times when a tent without a floor simply won''t do. For this reason, Black Diamond has made an optional, detachable floor which uses button and loop attachments to the tent and shock cord loops to the Megamid tent stakes. Works effortlessly with Megamid models made from 1999 on but can also be used with previous models with eight 2 shoestring loops attached to the tent. Use it for rain-soaked earth or for camping on the beach.

MegaMid
I've used these things since 1988 and I love it! I consider an exemplary outdoor structre, simple, sturdy and light. I've had to pile rocks on them before, but so what? It can take it just fine. I've also used it in heavy rain and wind without rocks piled on it and have been amazed. It's not a 4 season tent, get used to it.

Excellent tent! I spent six months travelling in South America with a Megamid and it was the best possible tent. I made my own floor that had about 6" of nylon wall and then another foot of bug mesh and used expandable hiking poles to raise the Megamid up to 8' height in good weather. The Megamid out performed so many tents in the Patagonia wind and snow. We watched a guy rolling away in the Patagonia wind in his Bibler tent and saw a North Face tent collapsed under the snow. I have snow camped with the Mid, I have done climbing weekends in the high Sierra with it and I am about to go on the John Muir trail with my Mid. It's great, roomy and lightweight. Having the side walls on the floor makes a big difference for wind but I have used it many times without and just staked it low. NO PROBLEMS! I love Megamids and have been using them since 1996.

I thought this tent would be ideal for some lightweight trekking in Ladakh - what a mistake!!! I had to build a rock wall around it every night to stop the wind blowing in. It was simply awful. I GAVE it away to some locals at the end of my trip - they were reluctant to accept it even because they'd seen how useless it was. Waste of $$$$. I'm embarrassed to admit I was dumb enough to buy it.
