Friend took one of these on a backpacking trip with me and we used it, or tried to. The 246 is cheap and crude compared to the Silva Ranger or Brunton Eclipse compasses. Mirror doesn''t want to stay up, hard to sight to landmarks, and difficult to read the degree markings. Spend a few dollars more & get a real compass.

The compass is accurate. I have used it for hikes that have no trails or landmarks and have always reached my destination. I would have liked it to have a longer cord, so that it could be comfortably hung around my neck, however, a longer cord can always be added.
