I have had an petzl artic headlamp for at least 8 years, I also have the charger and the accumulator. There are two situations where I do appreciate this lamp very much; during the winter time when we go cross country sking at night, it is powerfull enough an the beam easily reaches 200 feet, which is anough when you are sking downhill at a fast speed; when I am sea kayaking at dawn or at night and need to explore the shore from a safe distance , to find a safe landing spot.I usualy use the accumulator first which gives me 7 hours of autonomy an carry a battery as a back up (about 15 hours). Unfortunately it drains the battery to fast to just hang around at camp, pitch the tent, wash the disches, so I carry a petzl tikka for that matter.

Great Lamp for cold, however get the zoom if you dont go out in extream cold (-30 and colder Centigrate) I used thing ice caving in greenland as a back up head lamp for my zoom, soon my zoom turned into my back up light! also good battery life for when an screw came out and i had to ice climb 100m to the next rap rope.

I was torn between this headlamp and the Duo. I chose this one because I think it is more comfortable not having the battery on my head, and it works soooo well in the cold. I absolutely love it. It has served me very well in some real cold, harsh conditions. An excellent headlamp!

great light, feels good not to have the battery on your head even if it is not cold outside. batteries can be a little expensive.

This is my headlamp of choice. The insulated battery pack works well and hangs around your neck. It has good battery life in the cold. It uses a 4.5v flat battery which can be hard to find. You can buy an adapter which uses 4 AA batteries. I have not spent the extra money on the adapter nor do I want the extra weight

i already had one, but saw the newer models at the store, and decided to get another one. the reason: the adjustable strap and longer cable. with this, you can stow the battery pack in your pocket, extend the straps all the way and carry it over your shoulder, or put the strap around the waist (basically anywhere you want to place the battery, you can). the battery pack is a little more compact, making it stowing in the pockets easy. anyhow, a major improvement on an already excellent headlamp.
