The best way for me to review the Micro is to compare it to the Princeton Tec Solo. Both are extremely comfortable and take 2 AA batteries. I really like the focus feature of the Micro, but I think the Solo has a more powerful (though non-focusable) beam. The Solo's beam lasts longer and the whole unit itself is just more rugged and water resistant than the Micro. One nice feature the Micro has that the Solo doesn't is a spare lightbulb which is stored behind the the lamp - that's a great idea.

Thus, I think it comes down to deciding whether you want more power but no focusability, or less power and focusability. If you're not somebody who intentionally hikes in the dark (ie, only when you get caught on the trail after dark and have to!), then I think the power of the Micro is fine. I pretty much just use my headlamp around the campsite in the evening, and so I really like to be able to change the focus for different activities and the Micro is usually what I use. If I were to just need my headlamp for hiking at night, I would go with the Solo. I give the Micro a 4/5 in terms of its overall rating only because it needs to be a little more powerful and last longer.

An okay light, not very much bang for your buck, but okay for the average hiker. I have one very major complaint It propbaly has the whimpiest light beam on the market, after about an hour it starts to fade into a litle dinky light that is practicly useless.

Customer Service

I would recommend getting a more powerful light if you plan to do anything other than eat with it.

When first purchased this did very well, but eventually some componants rusted, and the light stopped working. I dug it up a few months ago and cleaned the entire thing. It works like new. I'm impressed. I would recommend getting one, although not for hard core night hiking.

This is a great headlamp for its size and weight. Its very economical with only two aa batteries, but definatly not powerfull enough for longer lasting night hiking/skiing/mountaineering. It makes a very good backup headlamp and its great for using around camp where you don't want to waste your main headlamp batteries.

It is a nice, lightweight light that has never given me any problems. For serious mountaineering, I would recommend a stronger light as the beam on this light is probably only good for reading and eating.

It used to be usefull, but I can't figure it out why does it still exist when Tikka is out. Tikka covers the same type of activities at a much lower power consumption and a higher light intensity, and is also so much smaller...

Customer Service

My Petzl equipment doesn't needs customer service.
