Sweet headlamp. Finally a good lamp that does not weigh a ton. I tested this lamp at the shop I worked at and found it stacked up very well. It tested brighter than Princeton Tecs LED, and it was brighter than a petzl zoom that had a couple of hours of use out of the batteries. It is definately not meant for route finding or spotlighting, but it is brighter within 20 feet, and can easily be used while hiking at night. I will never take my big ol' zoom on another light packing trip.

At 2.5 oz. with batteries and tens of hours of battery life I thought is was impossible, but I bought one anyway. It's true! the LED bulbs emit a useable (but not bright) amount of light. It's enough light to see your way on a trail or at camp at night. It will not illuminate an area at a distance for difficult route finding.

I haven't used it in the field yet, but i must say i am impressed by this little thing. It's small! I was trying to decide between this and the matrix, so ordered both, and am sending the matrix back. However, both are excellent lights.
The Tikka is a smaller, lighter, and noticably brighter due to more voltage from the 3 AAA's, rather than 2 AA's. The headband is simple and fits nicely. The casing is tougher than i thought it would be, and fits together real nice. It isn't waterproof, but hey, did i mention it's light? The matrix is heavier and bulkier, BUT, like all PT lights, bombproof and waterproof. You really can't go wrong with either of these, but i chose the Tikka for it's extra brightness and its small size and weight.
I couple the Tikka with a PT Blast (which also uses AAA's) to have a 4 oz. setup that shines forever for most camp chores, and a bright beam to see off in the distance when i need to. Both of these together are cheaper than the Matrix.

At only 2.5 ounces with batteries it's the ideal lightweight headlamp. Not the brightest, but the trade off with LEDs are their longevity of use.

I love it very much. I carry this flashlight with me all the time, at home, at work and in the mountains. Almost every day I need it. To find something in the car, to fix little things, all kind of little works. In the mountains, it's all I need in the camp. You almost forget you're wearing it. Plus, you almost forget about changing the batteries. It's also enaught in the first 30 - 40 hours for hiking or even for climbing. The plus: it comes with a nice carrying pocket. In general, it's the best choice, but you ABSOLUTELY need to have also another more powerfull headlamp (I use DUO).

I never had any problems with Petzl equipment, and I use only Petzl stuff when climbing or caving.
