I like this pack for a few reasons: 1. The price 2. The weight 3. The quality of materials and craftmanship What I dont like about it: 1. Only one accessory pocket (lid) 2. No hydration compartment 3. Not good for loads above 35lbs

I bought this pack in the fall of 2001 based on weight, heavy duty suspension, best fit from what I could try on, and price. I have used it on 3 trips so far carrying it a total of about 70 miles. Total weight carried varied from 25 to 35 pounds. Here is what I liked, did'nt like, and think is up to personal preference: I think the waist belt is very comfy providing alot of support. The load lifter straps work very well allowing be to move weight on and off the shoulders throughout the day along with keeping the pack tight against the back. Generally I think the pack is very well built and comfortable enough to carry all day 10-12 miles with <30lbs. without any soreness. What I don't like, not much but here are a couple of items. The water bottle in the water bottle pockets can't be reached with pack on. I seem to adjust the sternum strap thru the day to keep the the shoulder straps from cutting into my chest. That just may be me though. What's up to personal preference: There are no pockets except for the top lid. I kind of like it. I put everything in from the top, I lined the pack with a trash bag so I don't use the sleeping bag compt. zipper. another item is weight, specs say 5lbs. 8oz. which is o.k but I say loose the sleeping bag compt. zipper and water bottle pockets and loose another 1lb. overall I would recomend this pack to someone with only one special note, frame size seems to run on the big size. I'm 5'10" measuring my torso as desribed on dana designs web site put me in a medium. also 2 dealers fit me with medium size packs, but after having it I believe the small would have been a better choice. Make sure the shoulder straps follow the contour of the back of your shoulders when the load lifter staps are cranked on.

Customer Service

I have had no problems with pack so far. I contacted dana designs on suspension differences on their packs and they were helpful.

This is one great pack. It's very adjustable, has a great suspension, and comes in an awesome orange color. Get all that for $180, and what more could you want? I find that I don't miss side and back pockets at all. The lid pocket is good enough for me. The retractable bottom is great. It makes the pack very versatile. It also streamlines the pack a lot when you are using the sleeping pad straps, as it allows the sleeping pad to sit where the sleeping bag would normally be. The mesh side pockets are good for water bottles as well as for holding tent poles when strapping them under the compression straps. As I mentioned above, the adjustability is great. You can adjust exactly where and at which angle the shoulder pads sit. Also, the shoulder pads and hipbelt are interchangeable, and you can order it with whatever size hipbelt and straps you want. All in all, an awesome pack, even if it were at the normal price ($280). You can find it in many places for $180 or less.

Customer Service

The pack's limited to 4200 cu in (69 L) and I miss having pockets all over the pack (ala external frame)... BUT thanks to accessories, and gear lash points, I'm able to place all my loose gear INSIDE the pack while large stuff (snowboard, snowshoes, crampons and tent body) can be lashed to the outside pack, or top lid. and... it carries the load so comfortably! Extra strong velcro is used on shoulder strap anchors, and hip belt... as such, you're getting too many customization options, as a result i have battle scars on my knuckles from separating and rejoining velcro. The "necessities" are a godsend for this pack. so far i've added the 2 (med & lrg) necessity pockets for fuel, water and "stuff"; the beavertail shovit for snow equipment; a wet rib for water and yet more stuff. it gets a little crowded, but it's so nice to be able to have everything it it's place. bottom line: get this pack! i used to be satisfied with cheap packs that simply carried loads. This pack will carry loads WELL!

I''m finding it harder and harder to find a pack that doesn''t work properly. But the packs that perform above and beyond what we may expect are still hard to find. I purchased the Redirect because of my past experiences with Dana Design, and also because of the reduced weight of this pack, about 5lbs 10 ozs. Suspension is on the heavy-duty side, which is great for the times when packing 40lbs. Fit and comfort is top-notch. I think the load lifter straps work the best of any pack I''ve used. This has become the "workhorse" of all the packs I have...reduced weight, serious full suspension and harness and belt options for a near custom fit. Very satisfied. ed
