Day Hiker

I have done approximately 60kms of walking with this pack since purchasing it two weeks ago. It's a fantastic piece of equipment that gives the user great advantages over other more conventional packs. I did have doubts about it being too 'hi-tech' and therefore prone to being less durable. So far it has been sujected to abrasive coastal scrub, dragged up granite outcrops and the usual bushwalking wear and tear, no problems so far. The harness system is first rate and the negation of excessive perspiration in the back area makes any 20km+ day walk noticably easier, especially during summer months. I owm two 25 liter canvass packs and one 65 liter canvass alpine pack, as well as this 38 liter item. I love (composite)canvass products but have to admit that this pack best suits my needs and I would gladly upgrade to a Deuter 60+10 with a similar ventilation system

Customer Service

Mountain Designs in Hampton sold me the pack and their service is always excellent. Also a great place to buy reasonablly priced quality hiking boots

Is a great bulletproof canvass pack, my partner has one and it's been on 250kms of on and off trail walks without any signs of wear and tear. Great construction, quality zips, but lacking a couple of decent sized side pockets and a lower zipped compartment.
I also have a Mont 25 Trance which is a fantastic short range or utility daypack, lots of well designed compartments and really comfortable.I use a 25 liter Tuatara Macpac for cycling and work. A great hardwearing pack but with poor ventilation in the back area, I rarely use it for bushwalking. Finally I have a 65 liter 2009 Macpac Ascent, packs down to 40 liters or grows to 75 liters, will easily carry 35kilos of weight. Built to outlast me, but..it's a dedicated Alpine pack that creates sauna on your entire back after very short walks even in zero to 5C conditions. Probably the pack that gives you the greatest sense of balance, as it's flush against your body from top to bottom. It's probably better suited to cross country ski-ing. I won't be taking it on too many more long walks as it doesnt allow for any vetilation on contact areas. A shame because it could have been a brilliant hiking pack.

wonderful. A true example of german engineering. The pockets are in the perfect place, the straps are the most comfortable ever, the mesh back panel completely gets rid of all sweat, and it even has a built in rain cover. The hydration pocket is extremely useful for even the biggest camelbak/platypus resevoirs, and it even has rescue signalling instructions on the inside lid! There is nothing this pack can't handle.
