I''ll have to agree with my homey smallzie. It is a kick ass bag, I have logged about 700 km in it over the summer. It is the most conformable bag i have ever used, and i have extensively used The North Face and Jack Wolfskin bags. This bag is a better value. This bag is a better value. I only give it a four cuz there is always room for improvement.

Customer Service

excellent. i had problems with a day bag (it was my fault) and they fixed it quickly with no hassles

I bought the SL for "Slim" version which is 300 grams lighter. I'm not slim but it fits and carries 35 pound loads very well. The Vari-quick adjustment is very neat and it allows very fast adjustment to suit different sizes and conditions. The Air contact system simply works! We have very high humidity in VA and this system is a Godsend.
Quality is pretty good, not a porsche or mercedes, but adequate. I have concerns with the proprietary zippers and buckles but they appear sturdy. I don't like the compression straps crossing the side pockets, they could be placed better. My homebrewed Nalgene 48 oz/to hand pump/hose hydration system just barely fits in the H20 pocket. An REI duckback 60 raincover fits this pack well. This pack should be on your list if an Arcteryx Khamsin 65 or an Osprey Aether seems too pricy- it matches up well on weight and size. I bought a nice titanium pot with the savings. Overall a great pack for 3-4 day weekends, for weight conscious folks who want to trims a few pounds off without going "ultra-light".

I have had this pack for 3 months and have hiked over 100 miles with it and I love it , I never had a single problem with. I bought the 2001 model with the hydration system and it was sightly lighter at 2250 g. The air contact system is amazing it does just what it says it does and it fits like a dream. all I got to say is i love it

I've had my Deuter backpack for about two years and although I was improperly fitted by the salesperson, I've grown to appreciate the quality and craftsmanship of the pack. This is a good pack for weekend getaways, not a lot of external pockets so it's perfect for minimilist and winter excursions.

I can just imagine if I was fitted properly I'd probably give the pack a 4 star rating. But if you're looking for a well made pack and straight forward design check out the Deuter Aircontact, but get properly fitted first!
