Like many of you, I wanted to find the best possible pack for the money. I feel I have found it in the Granite Gear Access 3800. I do own a larger pack for trips that extend beyond a week, but for 2-4 day trips, this pack can't be beat. I've used it in the deserts of Canyonlands, hiking at near vertical mountain slopes in the winter, and limited trail running down rocky mountain trails when I was almost late for work and have experienced something that I have never experienced before in a pack's suspension system. I feel that this is due to a number of reasons. One of these reasons is the composite framesheet that replaces the traditional aluminum stays and the polyurithane sheet. I feel that the design and the composite materials have allowed the weight to be distributed more evenly along the whole surface area of the back. This has enabled the pack to literally conform to my unique anatomy. Another reason is in the way the pack loads. Most people are familiar with GG's compression sacks. This is exactly what the pack body is designed after. By the use of 3 inner compression straps, a zippable stretcy cover (so the zippers don't have to work as hard), and 3 outer compression straps, you can compress the items into the packbody so the contents will absolutely not move. Imagine being able to run with 30-40 lbs. on your back(jog might be a better word)! Durability is not an issue, with more bartacks than any other backpack I've used and only the best materials throughout. I could go on and on, but this pack has been an amazing discovery and one that is worth every penny! It only depresses me that more people don't know about Granite Gear backpacks. Please do yourself a favor and find one! You will not regret it.
