I wasn't sure if I wasn't going to be happy with the Gregory Shasta that has a beefier hip strap, but the Makalu Pro was lighter, so I went with it. I have no reservations about the hip strap on the Makalu Pro.

By far, the best pack that I have ever owned. I bought it for a weeklong trip to RMNP that included Long's. The size was a concern but in the end, I forced myself to go small so that I couldn't over pack on this or any future trips. It swallowed all 60 lbs with room to spare, since the floating top allows for much more than the advertised 4300 cu. inches. The fit is ridiculously incredible, with little to no adjustments necessary. HIGHLY recommended...

I am quite satisfied with this pack still after carrying a 65-70lb load over 6 miles inbound from a trailhead with a 2500 foot gain. I could have taken my denali pro but sometimes that pack seems sooo big. No real sore points to mention when carrying a heavy load. Great Construction! Great adjustability!

Used this pack on a 20 mile hike, up and down. Carried like a charm. Carried better than any other pack I've carried to date. Zero sore spots/pressure points.

The only problem I have with the pack is that I think the daisy chains on the front are a bit close to get a sleeping pad in between. for backpacking I don't think this is a problem, but I bought the pack for climbing. I think stowing the pad on the side will interfere w/ arm movement. Just a minor quibble.

Cold Cold World Chernobyl: perfect two or three day alpine pack, but the lack of a frame makes heavy loads kind o' tortuous.

I dig this pack. It carries well, is comfortable, and is of high quality. Very simple top loading design creates a lightweight, functional pack. Features will accomodate climbing crowd, but is well adapted to general backpacking. Durable construction. My favorite pack so far.
