Jansport Ascent 48 Internal Frame Backpacks

Jansport Ascent 48 Internal Frame Backpacks

DESCRIPTION

Made for overnight travels or geared-up day treks, this pack has all the features you're looking for--from hydration to gear loops. Made of ripstop nylon with a ballistics cloth bottom, it'll make it through airports and to the trail end for years to come. Hydration sleeve with a drink-tube exit hole will hold a bladder up to 4.2 liters, measuring 9 x 17 inches (sold separately). Gellycomb(TM) shoulder straps with Gelastic(TM), a patented gel-like elastomer, offer shock absorption and more comfortable load distribution. Compression straps pull the load closer to your center of gravity; hipbelt lessens side-to-side sway and transfers weight off your shoulders. Padded stash pocket on the front keeps a small camera or sunglasses safe from damage. Zip-in/out divider creates a separate bottom compartment to keep gear organized. Side pockets hold 1-quart bottles or other gear that you want within arm's reach; pockets fold flat and out of the way when not in use. Daisy chain, ice axe loops and lash straps are great for that extra gear that just won't fit inside.

QUALITY - A very durable pack, made with tough materials. The inside is perhaps a little over-organized, featuring tons of little pockets. I don''t use many of them. ------- WEIGHT/WEARABILITY - The pack seems a little heavy when I hoist it, but when it''s on my back and adjusted it is very comfortable. The pack feels close and does not affect my balance or agility. It makes a nice, compact package well suited to my ralatively small stature (5''7", 135 lb). To me the best feature, and the deciding feature when I chose the pack, is that the top is level with the shoulder pads and so you don''t have your pack bumping the back of your head. This is also quite nice when you have to crouch and go underneath an obstacle - as long as your head clears it your pack will, too. ------- CAPACITY - This pack is right at 3000 c.i. and is billed as an overnight pack, but I''ve been out on a 3 day/2 night trip and had room to spare inside. I''m convinced that it could could support a 3 to 4 night trip (note: my sleeping bag packs at 7x12 and my tent at 4x18). It is separated into individually accesible upper (about 2/3 of the height) and lower compartments, and a divider can be zipped out to make it one. ------- CONS: As mentioned above, too many little pockets inside. Nobody can decide how you''re going to pack your gear - fewer, larger pockets would be more helpful. The two side pockets that hold water bottles are actually hard to reach when you are wearing the pack.
