Strength:

Solid pack. I purchased this after wearing out a cheap external frame pack with Boy Scouts. I’ve loaded it down to close to eighty pounds and it still carried well. I love the full length compression stays: once you lock everything down it rides as one unit. Plenty of padding and all the load control straps you should expect. Recently pulled it out of storage and it is still great after twenty years. I’ve never looked back from this purchase

Weakness:

Lack of side pockets can make organization a bit of a challenge, but side pockets are cheap and easy to thread onto the compression straps for added storage/organization

Great product for the price, great features. Lock down compression system, detachable waist pack, extra webbing with buckles on the bottom for sleeping pad, daisy chain are all great features. There is plenty of room and spots on the outside of the pack to attach misc gear. I have used it in the winter with snow shoes, ice axes, and saws attached; in the summer with two sleeping bags, fishing poles, and around 60 pounds of crap and still held up for the job great. The only downfall is the lack of secondary pockets, so I bought two EMS attachable zippered pockets and put them into the side compression webbing in either side, and I am good to go lugging over 6000 cubic inches

I have had this pack since 1997. It's a great pack for trips up to three days(40-45 lbs) in my opinion. I have enjoyed it thoroughly, though I'll probably go for a heavier-duty pack next time around. Great features are the waist belt cinching system, hydration system appropriation and the separation for a sleeping bag.

Most of the good things have already been said, so I''''''''ll just add this: cinch down the lockdown system, strap up, tighten the load levelers on top and the ones on the sides of the hip belt, and you can go boulder hopping without ANY of your load moving at all and maintain perfect weight distribution the whole time. It''''''''s a durable, great fitting, admirable-sized load monster.

Very good pack. I've had mine for about two years now and have never had a problem with it. Best for loads 20-45 lbs, though. Just like others have said, it really can't be beat for the price.

This pack is great! Mine has been through the Alps, across the nation of Turkey, over half the Appalachian Trail, across the Wind River, and all over Colorado and Georgia. Only one repair, left bottom compression strap buckle snapped. The daisy chain is getting a little frayed. Big Whoop-de-doo! Not for really long trips, but the quality can't be beat for the price.

ive owned the slickrock for about three years now and have had it out on all kinds of terain and under all kinds of loads and conditions, all i can say is this pack rocks! the lockdown compression system is the best ive seen. its what all packs will one day be. ive had 60 lbs loads right down to twenty pound loads (where the compression system really shines) and the fit is superb, never shifts even when traversing technical terrain.

I have owned the kelty slickrock for two years now. It is an overall supurb pack, it handels well and is ajustable to fit a wide range of bodys. The only draw back I have found is that I have broke it twice once the night befor a nine day trip. The first breakdown was not bad, I was in the retail store getting it fitted and when I pulled the draw strings on the top one of the rings where the strings go into pulled out. The second breakdown was a bit less convient, The night befor a nine day trip I went to sholder my pack and one of the stays broke loose from the pack bag, luckley I was able to fix it. I think that a retaining ring put through the post that comes out of the top of the stays to attach it to the pack would keep it from coming out agin. I dont recamend that you overload the pack I think that is why it broke. Other than those minor insidents I have had no problems on my numerous other trips.

My Slickrock has been a terrific pack. Because of the sliding panel that connects the shoulder harnes to the aluminum stays, there are no more objects poking me in the back though the packbag. This panel also makes the pack very stable which is important here in the desert with all the boulder hopping I do. Top notch pack in my opinion.

I have had the slickrock for two years now. The longer I have it the more I like it. The size is perfect for a winter two day climb or a 6 day stretch in the summer. The webbing makes it extra versitle, giving you the option to strap in extra clothes/gear, and the daizy chain is a reak plus. The hip belt is quite comfortable. I am 6'3'' , 160lbs. I am still fine tuning the frame. Would be a little easier to adjust if the hip belt were detachable.

Customer Service

Never had to call them. Pack has been great so far.
