REI Cima 50 Internal Frame Backpacks

REI Cima 50 Internal Frame Backpacks

DESCRIPTION

With all the features of the larger Cimas but scaled down for lightweight backpacking, this pack is ideal for backcountry climbing, skiing and hiking. Spectra ripstop nylon with ripstop polyester provides long-lasting wear without adding weight. External gear attachment panel, affectionately called "The Gear Hog" features two front flasher pockets that can be stuffed with almost any gear. Clam-shell zippered opening provides wide, easy access to main compartment; internal zippered nylon mesh pocket separates dirty and clean items. Large zippered pocket against back can hold a hydration reservoir (sold separately). Padded shoulder straps extend down middle of back providing cushion with minimal contact between your back and the pack for exceptional ventilation. Hipbelt features a quad-buckle with four webbing cinches for precise adjustment that hugs the waist. Delrin rod spreads weight evenly around the hipbelt for a more efficient distribution of the load. Front daisy chain, dual ice axe and tool loops let you organize and carry your gear. Features aluminum stays for low weight without sacrificing stability and control.

An amazing pack- weighs considerably less than 4lbs, has a capacity of around 3000ci, and a suspension system that does not flinch at loads in excess of 40lbs. The pack is totally continuously adjustable along every dimension, making it very easy to dial in a perfect fit- it's the most comfortable pack I've ever used (and I've used a great great many!). All in all the REI Cima series represents the best combination of weight and load carrying capacity out there (even though the packs came out _before_ the go-lite craze really took off). The tragedy is that for some reason these packs never really sold well and were discontinued. I suspect that, given the current light-weight obsession, if they were to appear today they would be great sellers and REI should seriously consider a second run for these excellent packs.
