I had this pack for about two days, I was unimpressed by the belt, it caught me in the wronge places, making it uncomfortable for very long. I went to a Gregory, worth the extra money. I don't want to put down REI too much this would be a great pack if it had fit. Lots of great features at a low price, what REI is know for. This is the first REI product I have not liked, I am still an REI member and love their costomer service and prices.

Very big, and very comfortable. I've used this bag on many backpacking trips in California, and used it to travel around Europe. Could use a sleeping bag compartment but otherwise great design. REI quality with a great price.

I love this pack. Very comfortable. Holds a ton. Rei quility at Rei price. The only short coming of this pack is no sleeping bag compartment. But,that's not really a problem.

I found the newer version of this pack (green) to be an improvement over previous New Stars. However, you do get what you don't pay for. I had real problems with the stuffing in the waist belt moving around and causing discomfort. I tried numerous pack adjustments (though I was only carry 35 lb.) and had limited luck. Generally, the pack is well put together, but it's not a plush ride. Looking at Gregory and Dana to improve my situation.

I have had this pack for 4 years, so all you people better listen to ME!! It needs some serious work. I mean, don't get me wrong, you could kidnap a small child in the blink of an eye with this huge pack, but.... as far as comfort goes, ummmmm...better try another one. I love REI, but I am looking to move on to a more form-fitting, top-removable, sleeping bag compartment-having pack.

Customer Service

The folks at REI are great.

Bought a New Star last spring. My torso is 23 inches with a 38 waist. Love the fit. I've used it @ 19 nights on the trail so far. It will hold more than I want to carry, very comfortably. The water bottle side bag is weak. The detachable top fanny pack does not tie on solidly. I like the pak for the money. I find it cooler than most.

Customer Service

On other REI products I've delt with customer service. Always helpful!!!!
