The Valhalla has been drastically re-designed since the version shown in the picture. The new Valhalla is designed to be a great weekend-warrior backpack, good year round. It now has a snow shovel pocket, and a water bladder pocket,as well as many other enhancements. I have used it for both backpacking, and day trips. While it can be a little big for some more technical climbs (Class 3 and up), it has done well for me on most of the 14ers in Colorado. The side mesh pockets leave me with a great place for my camera, gaiters, trekking poles, and a quick snack. The dual compression straps are placed just right, to keep your load from shifting. And the snow shovel pocket can also be used to tote skis, not to mention two axe loops. As far as backpacking, it has been great. If I pack light, I can make it on a four to five day trip easily. The top portion detaches and becomes a fanny-pack - an option I can no longer live without. A great goody if you want to hike away from camp without lugging ALL of your gear with you. My only complaint is the lack of a daisy-chain on the outside. It would be nice to be able to use carabieners to attach additional gear...

Customer Service

REI has been outstanding.

Overall i would rate this pack high. Easy side access makes finding afternoon snacks on the trail a sinch. I have taken this pack through the White Mountains and my girlfriend traveled Italy with it on her back. No problems at all. Its large capacity holds everything you could need for a trip. Only complaint is the postion of mesh water bottle pockets, hard to reach.

Customer Service

I have bought many items from REI and being a member its nice to get money back at the end of the year. I know the saying Returned Equipment Incorporated(REI) but i have had no problems with them yet.

Roomy, Easy to adjust, comfortable. I am 6'2"" and about 280 pounds, big shouldered and generally very hard to fit. I was able to easily adjust this pack for optimal fit. It has held up well and I do not forsee getting another pack anytime soon

Customer Service

REI is a great place to shop. I like my annual rebates as well. Not having had a problem, I do not know how well they would deal with difficulties.

Very comfortable, a great deal for what you get. The size is perfect for me (the larger size) and it's very easy to adjust. I would sell this pack to my mother. The only thing is it wouldn't fit a large male, so...

Customer Service

I live near REI's flagship store in Seattle and talked to them on the pphone before going down to buy. It saved a lot of time.

I have used this pack for 5 years. Excellent pack, excellent value and light weight--- Do you ever think about the weight of your pack? You should- Most of them are very heavy.
