Awesome pack, wanted light weight and now I got it!- waterproofing sucks - but have since nikwaxed it with the spray so will see in the next rain. Carried 50lbs for a 3 night trip with utter comfort, and traded with my girlfriend she was amazed and now has one as well!, Comfortable to the max, (I'm 6' tall), currenlty serves all my backpacking needs, summer and winter- compresses pretty small for summer use... but now may have to get a jet stream as i am down to under 30lbs for 3 days!

Customer Service

TNF customer service, I know they have changed things since I had to use it last, but purchsed their Coriolis Tent and it did not come with enough pegs or tent pole repair sleeve - told them I had a trip planned in a few weeks and they shipped it - arrived on time.

I bought this pack w/ the John Muir Trail in mind and as an attempt to keep the weight to a minimum. This is the best pack i have used and have loaned it to a few guides who were also surprised. The stays do a good job of distributing the weight, and after a long day- you sometimes don't even notice the load you are carrying. The pack is very light for its size, but could use some refinements. The snow shovel pocket needs to be larger, and TNF should not use proprietary buckles on their packs- if you break one, you just cant run down to REI to get a replacement. Water bottle holsters or a hydration system pocket would be nice features- but would add some weight. Need to adapt the top to be a fanny pack, needs more waterproofing.

This is the pack i will use for everything- summer to winter. Good for mountaineering to backpacking.

I paid $170 and have seen them for $100 at the TNF outlet in Berkeley.

This is the bigger version of the Jetstream. It only weighs about 2 oz more, about 3.5 lbs. It has a huge extension skirt. I was afraid it might not be comfortable since the suspension is just 2 carbon fiber stays, and not very adjustable. But it actually is good enough and fits me well (5' 9""). I've carried about 45 lbs in it. I've used it on 2 trips so far. Price was about $200 on sale. The only possible better alpine pack would have been the Kelty White Cloud spectra model, but that's over twice the price. It's not quite as comfy on the trail as a pack like the Gregory Reality and Gravity-X, but it's lighter and better for alpine stuff. Rock and Ice magazine had a good review a couple months ago. The yellow fabric lets more light inside so you can find stuff.

Finally the industry is responding in big leaps and bounds! This pack has replaced several in my arsenal and at a fraction of the weight. The carbon stays flex nicely while supporting loads upto about 65lbs., after that the pack feels wobbley. The yellow liner indeed improves visibility within the pack but seems like a place to cut out even more weight. Since the top pocket is removable (and extendable) they should change the strap&buckle and make it a fannypack. The exterior shovel pocket needs to be more well drained or made removeable. Overall, however, this pack is a winner! Width, length, comfort and duribility rank very high.
