I loved my PCTs for years and they held up pretty well . . . until the shanks broke! I was surprised and disappointed but La Sportiva replaced them and even substituted some makalus for free. From what I've heard, the shank problem was fairly common and I think they fixed the manufacturing problem since i bought mine (in 95).

Customer Service

Great customer service with more than adequate compensation for defects.

The Pacific Crest strike a good compromise between full on leather boots with completely rigid soles and lighter-weight hiking and backpacking boots. I have gone on several hikes with these and I have not gotten a blister. With a Nikwax treatment the boot is waterproof, the leather is durable. It withstood me stepping on it with a crampon, although there was a gash but nothing serious, indeed the boot continued to be waterproof with the gashes even going through a half foot of snow. They work well with semi-rigid crampons.

This is excellent boot if it fits your feet - it has fairly narrow last but for me it's just perfect. This is my second pair of La Sportiva hiking boots and I can recommend them to just about anybody (fit issues aside). I'm not giving them 5 stars for value because the price is fairly high.

I got these boots on sale. I have been on a 5 mile hike, 8 nile hike and 10 mile hikes - in addition to lots of campng treks of less milage - and have not gotten a blister yet. A few hot spots while breaking in. They are comfortable boots. Very sturdy on steep rocks and tough terrain. Consider these heavy weight boots, but fits like a glove once broken in. If I put in over the counter ""Super Feet"" insoles for better fit, the insole that came with it was too thin for my feet. great boots.

I got my pair for $125 at Sierra Trading Post. A great price for a step-in-crampon compatible boot. I've used them three times climbing in winter conditions (ice and snow) and they were waterproof (after a nikwax treatment) and warm. Not stiff enough for all day crampon work, need a plastic boot for that. Fit is a little too narrow in the forefoot but they're streching a bit. A good heavy duty boot, especially on sale!

I like these boots but am concerned about their durability. In less than a full season my boots have some major cutts and scuffing on the toe. The scuff on the toe is close to 2mm deep. I have done some pretty intense off trail kiking with them but I still feel that the level of wear they exhibit (far more than my 8 year old Alpinas) They have been returned the company by my shop to be evaluated. Maybe they had deffective leather. In fact I have returned th
