I got a good deal on these boots, using my REI dividend and an additional 10% discount, so I decided to give them a try. First impression out of the box is that they were exremely comfortable; almost too comfortable. After several weeks of hiking with them, I think I was right. There is not a lot of support in here, esp. considering that they list at $179, are all leather and are marketed as a mid-duty boot. I have low top fabric/leather shoes that provide much more support. The Renegades are good looking boots and you wouldn't feel out of place wearing them on campus, or to the mall. I get the feeling that Lowa is using the Renegade to compete with Timberland. If you are looking for a lightweight boot for walking around the park, or for easy day hikes, the Renegades are a boot to consider. But there are many other boots that will serve this purpose at half the price. If you are looking for a serious hiking boot for rugged dayhikes and weekend backpacking trips, I suggest you forget about the Renegade.

I really like these boots- camped/hiked in Yosemite for several nights - no blisters, no hotspots, very comfortable, very waterproof, no twisty ankles, zero break-in time. Unfortunately, there's not much terrain around Houston other than concrete, but I still love wearing these when the opportunity arises.

Unless you are kicking rocks in Siberia like one of the previous reviewers, these boots are an excellent choice for hiking in almost all conditions. With a pair of Bridgedale socks on, these feathers are ready to eat up the trail and leave your dogs happy and healthy after the days walk. Felt like my Asics gels right out of the box. Great support and traction in all terrain conditions encountered thus far. German engineering @ its best. Forbes Magazine top 100 "must haves" and worth every penny.

Just finished backpacking four days in Havasupai. This is a ten mile hike in and out. These were the most comfortable boot I have ever worn. No problems whatsoever. The boots seem to fit from the beginning. No break-in period. No blisters. I will be buying more Lowa products.

The Lowa Renegade is everything you need in a lightweight boot. I bought them because of a great experience with some low-cut Lowas I bought a couple years ago (the sales guy was wearing them). On a recent trip to Rocky Mountain National Park, the Renegades exceeded my expectations. They're the most comfortable boots I have ever owned by a long shot. No blisters after 4 days of mountain hiking (35 lb pack). No sore feet, no twisted ankles. The traction on slippery, wet rocks was excellent and my feet were dry, even in heavy rain. The soles were surprisingly stiff for a lightweight boot. I'm really tough on foot wear and although the construction looks kind of light, the boots held up extremely well.

I bought these boots last autumn. Zero break in time, perfect fit - it''s all the truth, but their construction appeared to be very weak to my mind. I will not get surprised if they die next day after the guarantee (1 year) expire. 1. Top - no specific problems. Very comfortable even with thin socks, perfect with thin wool ones. Holds the ankle very well on most slopes. Waterproof properties are common for their class: they withstand a short dip, but go wet in a couple of minutes on wet snow or grass. 2. Sole - MUST DIE. Very slippy even on hard snow (dare to compare it to Salomon Contagrip or any Vibram soles). Gets hard below -10 C, may crack below -25 C (Salomon and La Sportiva''s Vibram function at -40 w/o any problems). Significantly (~30%) worn in 6 months (2 months on asphalt, the rest on snow). 3. Performance - Shock absorber works fine when jumping down. Zero protection against front shock (don''t try to kick stones ;-(). Their light weight and soft inner sole allow to run comfortably. I''d found them too sensitive when walking on a rocky terrain. Outcome: nice outdoor-styled city boots, may be used for a weekend escape on easy terrain. I used them in the following manner: 5 min to institution, day in the lab, 5 min to home. Ski trips on weekends (I used the Lowas as extra boots). No adventures at all. And the slippy sole is going to wear out in nine months. A small disappointment for $108, isn''t it? I strongly recommend to add $20 more and buy something like Salomon Authentic 6 (my wife has owned them for 4 years and used even with strap-mounted crampons for light mountaneering) or La Sportiva Taiga with Vibram sole (I heavily used them for 36 months, they were killed by 6 days mountain trip in mud and rain).

Customer Service

I will try to bring them back when they will be 11.5 month old (ha-ha-ha!).

Wearing these boots is like walking on air. I bought them a few months back and have been wearing them around town and on day hikes with no hints of hot spots, blisters etc. The real test came last weekend when I took them backpacking. The trails were wet and muddy, with feet sinking in almost up to my ankle at times. The temperature dipped to below 10F at night, and there was a pretty substantial windchill. The bottom line is that under a 40lb pack in these conditions my feet stayed warm, dry, and blister free over the course of 20 miles over hill and dale. There were numerous stream crossings where I had to traverse slippery rocks. Traction was great. These boots are the balls. I''ll buy them again in a heartbeat.

Haven''t used, probably never will.

Just bought these boots about 4 days ago. I have wide feet with a high arch and have a very hard time finding boots/shoes that fit. Even though these are not offered in "wide", they fit great. They are almost as comfortable as tennis shoes. I haven''t worn them under a pack yet but will this weekend and will report any problems.

Customer Service

Blue Ridge is a little pricey but the sales people really know what they are talking about and are happy to spend as much time with you as you need.

VERY comfortable from the first hike; I have had these for a month and a half, and they are doing very well.

Only complaint: the plastic lace loops at the top of the boots look a little flimsy (especially compared to other Lowa boots), but so far they are holding up.
