I bought Lowa boots for two reasons: First, I went to my local outdoor shop and tried nearly every mid boot they had in my size - spent a lot of time walking the store and up and down the ramp - and the Lowas were far and away the most comfortable and stable. Second, they were unanimously recommended, as well as almost exclusively used, by my friends. This, coupled with generally excellent reviews online, cinched the decision. I''''ve worn these boots out on two weekend trips and I am well-satisfied - and would be even if I had paid the full price for them. They gripped beautifully, even on wet, moss-covered rocks. They stayed snug all day and did not render up a single blister, and only two minor hot-spots. They stood up wonderfully, both soles and uppers. Craftsmanship is flawless and I recommend the Lowa Tempest without reservation. Lowas appear to run small, which would explain why they fit so well on my small and narrow feet. I would not recommend buying any boots online without trying the exact model first-hand.

This bood creases uncomfortably over the top of my toes, and also doesent hold my heel in place very well. I think its just my foot profile. Other wise, the boot is rather durable but, not waterproof. Decent boot though.

Customer Service

REI said they would probally be willing to exchange them even after a years use.

I have used these boots for four months now. I''ve used them to the tops of Whitney and Half Dome and I''ve used, and continue to use, them on countless day hikes in a number of local wilderness areas. These boots have given me no problem. They''re wearable right out of the box. While a concern at first, the upper plastic lace loops proved to be sturdy and durable. The soles are the same as on the twice as expensive Renegade GTX Mids. The price difference reflects the fact that the Tempests are not waterproof, and water leakage with the Tempest is almost immediate. At $80, they''re a bargain.

Customer Service

Never had to use in four months.
