Well at first I really liked these boots. I had used them for a few weeks of dayhikes, they were great. Then I hiked the Long trail with them and they turned from great to the amazing disintegrating boots. Eyelets pulled off, delaminated everything shy of falling right off my feet.

I haven't taken these boots out on anything longer than day hikes but have been very satisfied with them. They didn't need any break in and I have yet to get any blisters. They are soooo light. The first time I took them out was a quick hike in Vail. To get in before a thunderstorm, I had to jog a couple of miles downhill. I barely even noticed I had hiking boots on. I too cannot understand the negitive reviews but I guess they just have to fit your foot. I wish they had a better rand with the ability to use crampons. I had to pay retail for these boots in Flagstaff but at least the woman version is on sale at http://www.sportsbasement.com/. I thought they had the mens version when I was inthe store last but maybe they are sold out.

I think they are called Asolo Superlight. It is an old leather book with a 3/4 shank. They fit my foot great and have over 100 days of backpacking on them but one boot weighs as much as a the Merrill Superlight!

This is the most comfortable boot I have had. It is easy to get on and off. My only disappointment with this boot is I have not found it to be water resistant enuf for me. My foot would be drenched hiking thru a wet meadow. I found finger size holes at the base of the tongue were material should have been sewn together but was not. I don't know if mine were defective or they are all like that. I plugged the holes. I also found the leather treatment to be inadequate. Several water resistant leather treating products failed to keep the water out. I have now coated the entire front half of the boots with a rubber-based caulking material to keep moisture out. A good boot, just not water resistant.

I've had these boots for about a year and a half and have found them best suited to fast paced shorter trips. They have adequate ancle support for light to moderate loads, and are fairly light. They are definatly a little narrow in the toe box for me when wearing really thick socks, so all of you with wider toes may want to consider something else. Also, one of the rivets holding a lace hook in place came out, but that's fixable. Overall they're a decent boot if you're looking for something light and fast.

I order these boots from EMS and when I got them, I thought they looked more like an overgrown athletic shoe than a hiking boot. I was a little hesitant about them, but when I tried them on they felt great. That is about the last good thing I can say about them. The first time I wore them was in light snow (3-4 in. deep), my feet got soaked. I waterproofed them (w/Bi-well), but the next time I was in wet conditions, I got soaked again. I discovered that the double tongue has a design flaw that lets water in at the interace w/ the toe. The double tongue also makes the boots extremely hard to tighten the laces. Additionally, as mentioned by one of the other reviewers, they feel "clompy" especially on rocky trails (and every trail in PA is rocky). And finally, after only very little use ~ 3 mo. the toe bumper has started to delaminate. I am very disapponted in this boot.

If you are a city slicker, these boots are for you. They fit well and look good. They did not make it a full year with me. Front rubber pelled off--had to repair both boots. Never was able to make them water proof (wet feet was a constant). Booth boots have stitching problems. Sole is 3/4ths gone. Last week broke eyelet. If you get them on sell do not buy them. Not worth the poor performance in the mountains. The soles do not like wet rock. Feet sweat at all temp.

I bought these boots because I got a really great deal through Sierra Trading Post ($50.00). I had never really liked Merril products but these are great. I put over 80 miles on them in one week and did not even develop a sore spot. They have preformed great for me while snowshoeing and hiking in hot weather. I also have been able to do some climbing in them during one snowshoeing trip. I love these boots. Short break-in time and they are light as well as comfortable. I don't understand the por reviews unless some people don't know how to pick a boot to fit them. Make sure that any boot fits your foot!

I love the boot!! Cannot understand the bad reviews. I hike alot, and in varying terrain. Never have I had blisters from these boots, there are no pressure points in the boot at all. I do know that they are a little prone to leak some water after prolonged exposure to rainy conditions, What boot doesn't? I had a lace break after five months of ware--just a bad spot the rest of lace and alternate lace were fine. Couldn't get merrell laces anywhere. The replacement laces have worked fine for over a year though. All in all I love the boot, I paid just under $100.00 and think they superb boot for the $$$. I also use them occassionally use them for snowshoeing, weather permitting and found they handle thicker socks with no problem, and love the light weight fused with wonderful support.

These boots SUCK. THey are flimsy, the toe peeled, the soles were thin, and they bit into my ankle. THe only redeeming quality about these boots is the double tongue.

Customer Service

EMS was good about exchanging them for me. I got a pair of Asolo 535's, the best boots I have ever owned.
