DESCRIPTION

Hiking and light backpacking boot is stout and chock-full of features. Gore-Tex-lined leather construction is supportive and keeps feet thankfully dry. I'm from Montana, but I bought these boots for a 30+ mile backpack through Haleakala National Park in Maui, Hawaii. Even though they fit welll right out of the box, I took the time to wear them around town and at work for about one month before the trip. They broke in super fast and were more than ready for the trail in Maui. The trails in Haleakala are predominately sand and lava rock, both of which can be very hard on footwear. These boots held up great. The fit, particularly in the snug and secure heel pocket, was the best feature for me. My heel fit snug and didn't move around at all. They didn't give me blisters, hot spots, or foot cramps and held up well in the rain and watery conditions in the Paliku area of the Park which is on the edge of a rainforest. I have always worn light/breatheable low-top hiking shoes before these, but I will be wearing these boots now on the majority of my spring, summer, and fall backpacking trips around Montana and Idaho. I managed to get these for a steep discount but I would have easily paid full price had I known how well they were going to perform. I wish I had bought another pair at the sale. Best boots I've had in a long time.

I purchased these boots in the wide version for a more comfortable fit. The original insoles were replaced with Superfeet to proide more arch support. The boots were thouroughly broken in through everyday use at school, work, etc. Boots are comfortable in all settings and the GTX keeps snow, ice, and water at bay.
These boots were my only shoes For a spring break geology field trip. I wore these boots continuously for a week in the Mojave and Sonoran deserts and Death Valley. Leather uppers provide ample protection against rocks, cacti, and rolling your ankles. Vibram soles are flexible and comfortable while sticky enough to grip polished limestone and marble. Yet, the soles are durable enough to withstand abuse from granite, vesicular lava flows, and other coarse grained, angular rocks. Boots were comfortable in temperatures ranging from 30F-85F. They can be a little warm in the desert sun.
I have yet to find any serious faults with these boots. Plus, they are very stylish.

I would recommend these boots to anyone who enjoys day, weekend, or even extended trips. Good support for a 50-60 pound pack and flexible enough for scrambles and moderate bouldering. Great three and possibly four season boot. Keep feet dry and comfortable. I am preparing to wear these boots for three months in Europe with a 50 pound backpack.

You should only purchase these boots if you are SURE that your foot is narrow and a "low volume" foot. Otherwise you will suffer like I did, with painful blisters all over your foot. I was even sized at three different stores that all agreed on the size.

These were my first serious pair of hiking/backpacking boots. I think they're great. They are very snug in the heel. I got the wide size because the regulars were too snug in the heel. But, that just means they don't slide around on your feet. Very light, durable and nice looking. When I first got them I spent a week with them on the Appalachian Trail and I had no problems at all. No blisters or soreness, even though they were brand new. I wear them for all of my day hikes as well. I would buy them again and will look for this brand next time.

I'm a long time wearer of Vasque Sundowners, but when the time finally came to purchase a new pair of boots, I decided I wanted to try something a little newer in design. After reading many favorable reviews on these particular boots, I decided to give them a try. I bought them about a month prior to spending a week backpacking in Death Valley and the Grand Canyon. Due to my own poor planning, break-in was limited to a couple of short hikes, and about a week of daily wear. I thought for sure that I would pay the price for the short break-in period, but was very pleasantly surprised. The boots were perfectly comfortable throughout the trip (no hot spots, blisters, etc.), and despite many wet, muddy trails, and the occasional step into streams, remained completely dry. In addition, although I never really thought much about the actual look of the boots, several people have commented on how nice looking they were! All in all, I'm extremely satisfied with them, and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for a high quality hiking/backpacking boot.

I bought this boot primarily for its wide size availibility. I first tried LL Bean Knife Edge's (wide) and they were painfully narrow. Returned them and went to an outfitter to get a pair that fit. The boots fit well and feel comfortable. No blisters experienced. I did suffer heel pain towards the the end of the first 3 or 4 hikes, now 99% gone. Altough my usage (at 6 months) has been limited to day hikes, the boots have been subjected to regular usage on pretty rough terrain (trip to Acadia, lots of scambling in rocky stream gorges, etc) and heavy loads (me at 240# and 20# day pack). They give good support and confidence. Will test heavier pack loads during upcoming overnight trips. I used Nikwax and the boots have been 100% waterproof for rain, shallow stream crossings etc. Not one leak even in constant muddy and wet conditions. I do clean and reapply as suggested. I'm sure there are lighter, sturdier, and fancier boots available, but when looking for a boot for an extra-wide foot, the options are few. I did find Vasques MX2's to be wide, but found the Torre's to be servicable at a lower cost. I also would like to have tried a pair of LL Bean Cresta's.

I've been an old school one piece leather guy, and was skeptical about these new techno fancy boots. But, alas, my old Vasque vagabonds came back a half size smaller after being resoled--I was heartbroken. So I saw these Montrail's on closeout at Dicks for $50 less than I had just seen them at EMS--seemed like a sign from God. Well, to cut to the point: I'm a beleiver. These boots are great! I do aggressive day hikes on very rough terrain--these boots hold out better than any I've worn. No blisters. I did replace the insoles with something a little more cushy. I've even used them on winter day trips with snowshoes. Broke trail last January in 4' of fresh powder--these boots were fantastic. So, for me they are year rounders.

Bought these books more for heavy yard work than hiking. They are very solid performers and after 7 hours of tolling in the yard my feet atill feel great. Only had them about two week so don't know how they will hold up, but the Gore-tex lining has kept my socks and feet dry. I have wide feet and they do come in a wide width which is problem with most other hiking shoes.

These aren't boots - they're sponges. It rained hard on day 3 of a week-trip, and these boots soaked up everything. I thought they sold me walking Dromedary bags, and that I was supposed to filter my drinking water from them!

Customer Service

I called Exkursion and they said they'd take care of the problem.

I bought these boots at EMS in September of 2002. They leaked in wet grass and rain and they gave me blisters on my heels. I wasn't sure if they were leaking or if my feet were sweating so I tried to break them in to eliminate the blisters but they never stopped burning me. A friend of mine had the same problem with his Moraine AT boots but I didn't think it would happen with such a soft boot. Montrail's Integrafit is only for a small group of people with the right shape feet I guess.

Customer Service

I called Montrail and they told me to call EMS. EMS said, without hesitation, to bring them in and they will give me my money back, even after six months of use!
