Scarpa Delta Mens Hiking Backpacking Boots

Scarpa Delta Mens Hiking Backpacking Boots

DESCRIPTION

One of the most popular boots in the Scarpa line, the Delta is a perfect balance of comfort, function and durability. The full grain upper is very tough and supportive yet conforms to the foot quickly. The Delta provides great traction and shock absorption with the dual-density Skywalk Compact sole and additional comfort with a moisture wicking Cambrelle lining.

Well, I have had a pair of these for almost 6 years and they have finally blown out - the sole has separated from the uppers in several locations and they are leaking badly.

I have used these boots extensively and they have lasted fairly well. However, they have needed a lot of care to keep them even close to waterproof and don't even attempt to use them without replacing the footbed with Superfeet. The leather is quite heavy but doesn't seem to accept waterproofing all that well - I've had lots of trouble keeping them dry on longer trips. The shank/sole/uppers have really softened and the last two years the boots have become a lot less supportive in a very rapid manner.

I find the tongue design actually tends to accumulate a fair amount of crud right at the bottom eyelets; this doesn't help in keeping the boots dry if you are around wet foliage and/or have to wade a bit. If this area gets wet you are in big trouble since the inside of the tongue is heavy leather as opposed to woven synthetic like the rest of the boot.

The soles have separated from the uppers around the toe rand and the heel area. This has not helped the ability of the boots to shed water...The leather no longer in good shape and does not seeem to hold any waterproofer now. The tread design is good for soil but very slippery on rock: beware any wet rock! The tread has lasted well but that is a trade-off with traction; I'd rather have more traction, particularly on rock.

Bottom line: a pretty tough boot that fits wider, bigger volume feet well (I had to "fill" mine in with heavier Superfeet to keep my feet snug). The waterproofness is outdated and should be improved with a proper liner of some type if you are going anywhere near wet areas. A real Vibram sole would be better since I believe their rubber is stickier and a more solid shank/sole/upper would probably help longevity.
