One word.....BLISTERS!!! Don't get me wrong..these boots have held up remarkably well withh all the abuse i have given them in the Whites of New Hampshire, but no matter what sock combo i try i still get them whith these boots. I have the gore-tex version and still stay dry even walking threw rivers!! I have some ankle problems and wish these could lace up tighter...very stiff around ankle.

I recently had to buy a new pair of boots just before a trip to the Adirondacks. I found a closeout at Campmor on these boots for 100 bucks. They were great, I only had two days to break them in before the hike and I had no blisters. I also loved the confidence the Gortex liner gives, after a couple of long day hikes I was just splashing through the puddles and my feet were pefectly dry. The only drawback is the boots have limited traction on wet -slick surfaces, but on the flip side since the rubber is firm they should last a long time.

Great boots. Very sturdy, great traction. I really like the continous fabric from the boot to the tounge. It really keeps the crud out.

I have had the GoreTex version of these boots since about 1993. I use them primarily for day hiking and some backpacking. In sum, they are a great pair of boots and I have no major complaints. My feet stay dry, even when they are in need of waterproofing. Also, I have very wide, but small feet, but I have never had any problems with numbing or tingling, even with a full pack and after many miles. The sole is a little slick on wet rocks, though, but what isn't? I think I can get another year out of the tread before they are totally worn out. The metal lace braces have all bent somewhat, and are all pretty rusty. I think the cushioning is getting kind of shot as well. I wear a suit to work and I wear them in winter in all but the coldest weather. Even though they're not insulated, my feet aren't cold.

I used to wear this really bad pair of Nike boots, which I don't think were designed for actual hiking - just the look. Those were so horrible that the Vasques were an incredible improvement.

I took these shoes on a trip to Yosemtie with my school and they worked well. I didn't notice any problem with traction, but that may be because they are a newer shoe. I think they are '97 or '98. I put on some snow seal to seal out any water. Overall they are a good shoe.

Bought a pair 'cause they were on sale and I already had a pair of Vasque hand-sewn boots that were AWESOME. Bad move. My feet were so sore after wearing these one day. No support and the soles let me feel every pebble on the trail. Tried switching the insoles to get more padding, the boot didn't fit right. I gave them away. I'll stay with the Sundowner, or the Montana. No problems with them at all. They are alright for street hiking, but don't go anywhere you are out of sight of your car.

This is a great company! Some boots needed some stitching after I abused them. They did it for free! Recommend Vasque boots to anyone.

I bought these boots a few days before I went on a 10 day backpacking trip in washington that encompassed Wenatchee NP and Olympic NP. I got the gore-tex models and love them. The waterproofing is unbelievable. I didn't get a single blister even though I spent minimal time breaking these shoes in. I highly reccomend them.

I have had these for two years and I they have been a fairly good pair of boots. I have not used them for extended periods of time (day after day of trekking) or for extremely rugged terrrain, so I can make no claim to their merits in these areas. For light to moderate use they are comfortable and durable (as they should be for the price).

I am beginning my third year with these boots. I do alot of hiking and backpacking. I have worn them carrying a heavy pack and found them to give me alot of ankle support while being very comfortable. I especially like the fact that when descending a very steep trail the bottom of my feet are not rubbed raw. I have worn them while crossing streams, wading spring snow and during the early season elk hunt. I plan to buy another pair this year.

I purchased the non-Gore-Tex model, and haven't been exactly satisfied with it. On every trip I've had, even just the short 2 hour climb, I've gotten blisters. These were while I was wearing 2 pairs of socks --an inner polyester lining and Thorlos cushioned hiking socks on the outside. I just came from a 2-day climb entailing an 8-hour ascent and a 5-hour descent over some really punishing terrain, and I sustained blisters everywhere you could possibly imagine. This would be expected of such a grueling hike, but my buddies wearing Asolo, Nike ACG, and New Balance All-terrain shoes didn't even have blisters. Go figure. Since I got the shoes on sale at REI for $70, I suppose they are value for my money. Traction is acceptable even on wet mud, though the grooves could've been deeper especially at the foot arch area. The old Hi-Tec Utahs I had cracked in half at the arch on city walking, but never gave me any blisters whatsoever. Ankle support of the Clarion was good, but no matter how I seemed to tie those laces, they just kept getting loose. I recommend this shoe for those planning to do light to moderate hiking only, preferrably on mild grades (definitrly not for 45 degrees!), and they've got to be on sale to be worth your money.
