These are the most comfortable pair of boots I have ever worn. I have had mine for over 4 years and they are still in great shape. I have had them resoled, but thats it. It seems a lot of other people have had problems with the goretex, but mine is still perfect. Whenever these wear out I will buy another pair. I bought these as a replacement for a 5 year old pair of Merrells hoping they would last as long. It looks like their going to go a lot longer.

pros: these boots felt great after broken in. the insole conforms to you foot for a perfect, individual fit. they are lightweight too.
cons: the gore tex wore out in 3 years. on a backpacking trip through alaska rain, my feet were soaked. and that's with or gaitors! plus, the gore tex keeps your feet hot and sweaty on summer hikes.
i think that a treated one peice leather upper is much better than gore tex boots.

Purchased these boots in 1992. The original Skywalk was NOT cloth. Mine are leather/gore tex upper, very similar to the Sundowner. Always have fit well, and I keep getting new soles. I wish they were still making it leather upper, but they don't so get the Sundowner. Vasque is the way to go, for stability and overall use. Work well in MTB baskets, if you still use baskets. My rating reflects MY boots, and like I said, they are not the same as the current Skywalk. Go Vasque.

good boot, a little heavy for a fabric leather boot because of the steel shank, good waterproofness when the goretex was still good, goretex only last about 1 year, fits great I have wide feet, great support, good traction, had mine for 4 years, goretex made feet to sweaty

Customer Service

my advise is not to get goretex boots period, feet gets too sweaty and goretex don't last very long in boots, paying extra for goretex not worth it

I've owned my pair of Skywalks since '92. They have been extremely comfortable, but the Gore-Tex bootie has begun to fail. Since this is NOT an all-leather boot, the failure of the Gore-Tex renders these boots virtually useless for a large portion of my work. In any case, I suppose 7 years of hard use is pretty good life expectancy from a pair of boots. I spent $115 on them back in '92(REI's annual super-special sale), and lower-than the $190 list prices can be found occasionally in Campmor's catalog and through Sierra Trading Post's catalog. These are, overall, excellent boots, and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone, but I personally prefer all-leather boots to Cordura-and-suede boots. 4.25 stars for value, 4.25 stars overall.

Great boot and slightly lighter than the sundowner. I had this boot in college and still have them in my closet and wear them more than my newer sundowners. The Skywalk also seems to allow my feet to breathe a little more than the sundowners.

Great all-around boot. I've had mine for almost 8 years now. I've had them re-soled twice and their still as good as I first bought them! Some people complain that the Gore-Tex comes unstitched from the inside of the collar and the inside of the boot, but not here!

Rest assured that the next pair of boots I'll ever buy will be another pair of Skywalks!

These boots should get 6 stars. There the best boots I've ever owned!! I bought mine 12+ years ago and still wear them around the house and when gardening. though way past their trail days, even with the heel half off one of them their still water proof.

My first trip with these boots was not so good though. I didn't give them enough brake in time and went on a 3 day trip with boots right out of the box. I thought I made a big mistake in buying them, but later trips showed their worth. the price has kept me from buying another pair. some day?!?!!?

I love these boots...let me repeat that...I LOVE THESE BOOTS.....extremely comfortable and durable. My first pair lasted 3 years, and that is remarkable considering the abuse that I put them through. Big Bend is not very forgiving..cactus, rock, sand, heat, and that's just the summer. I waded through water, mud, and snow in Texas and New Mexico and finally wore the collar out...still wore them. I'm not sure I would use them where I needed a firmer sole, i.e. mountaineering, but great for all other uses.

I have had 3 pairs of Vasque boots in the various stages of growing, and these are my last pair for a long time I hope. They are the most comfortable. With some waterproofing I was able to ski down the entire length of Mt. Washington's East Bowls on my boots (it was slushy and much fun!). I have no blisters with these boots as I have had with other ones, Very Nice.
