Wasn't expecting too much break in time with something so "shoe-like," but spent at least a week pacing to keep the blood flowing across the top of my foot. If I sat still, the tongue's pressure on the unpadded top of my foot would soon become my sole thought. It was either that, or have them too loose to feel secure in. But that went away and they've been comfortable ever since. They seem a little wide for my slightly-narrower-than-average feet, but hold my heel down well. The tread wears off VERY quickly just wearing them around town, with the flip side being that while there was tread under the ball of my foot, they stuck to whatever I stuck them to. I guess that's just the way it goes. Gore-Tex has worked very well and I've really used it too. They have always seemed way more valuable than the $100 they cost.
