Got the bag on sale for $95. Took it out for a couple days and it got down to ~20 F. It got pretty cold, and I wouldn't advise it's use under 25 F. Worked great for warmer nights. Overall very good weight and size for the price.

I've had a thermo pod 15 for about 3 years. The lowest temp I've had to endure in Sierras was around +30F. Never had a problem. I always keep the bag in it's cotton storage bag when it's not in use.

Over the course of three years or so, I've found this bag to be adequate down to about 25, maybe 20 degrees and even the I've had to wear a few layers. I'm not so sure I'd trust it down to the 15 degree rating. I think my next bag will be a nice fluffy down one.

Customer Service

None, although I've heard they're no problem to deal with.

I bought this bag in the summer of '98. It worked great for the couple times i used it over the course of the first year. I used it on four 12 day long backpacking trips in the Adirondack mtns in NY last summer. I noticed that the bag seriously lost its loft by the end of the summer. I used it again on a trip last October in the White Mtns of NH in some 15 degree nights. I spent those nights shivering and sleepless in my poorly insulating bag. I took it back to REI and told them that it lost its insulating capability. The costomer service agent said that the Thermolite Extreme wasn't durable and had a tendency to lose its loft and therefore its insulating ability. He also said that they will not use that insulation in their year 2000 bags. When the bag insulated, it worked great. The draft collor and hood were wonderful and kept my bodyheat in the bag. It also has a generous ammount of insulation at the foot of the bag to keep my feet toasty. Another plus for this bag is its price. If you're a backpacker with a tight wallet, i'd definately reccomend the year 2000 thermo pod 15.

Customer Service

I returned my bag because the Thermolite Extreme lost its lofting and insulating abilities. REI gave me a full refund.

I've tried the 98 version of the bag and was somewhat disappointed. I felt draft in this bag at 35 degrees. It packs down very small and is light and I like the Thermolite Extreme from DuPont. I think REI has changed some thing, for the good, in newer models of this bag.

I have an older version of this bag. This bag doesn't even come close to its 15 degree rating. Probably more like 25 degrees. But if you in the market for a bag in the 20 to 40 degree range, probably not a bad bag to consider for the price. If you are a backpacker, I would compare its weight with other bags you are considering.

Customer Service

As with all its products it sells, REI has great customer service.

This review is of the '99 model. This is a very good synthetic bag. It packs nearly as well as down. It lofts nearly as well as down. It insulates nearly as well as down. It resists water much better than down. Overall it is a great bag for extended three-season backpacking. With a light liner bag, this would be a good four-season bag.

I have an older version of this bag. I got it at REI about 3 years ago. The bag has done an adequate job of keeping me warm although now it dose have a few cold spots where it has lost some of its loft. Overall I've been pleased with it.

Customer Service

Ive been a member at REI since I bought this particular bag and I don't have any complaints about their customer service at all.

to be honest, i bought this bag used in the summer of 98 ($70) at the clearance section of rei...so it must have been a 97 or 98 bag. if the newer bags are improved, that's good. my bag has lost even more loft since when i got it...it's more of a 40 degree bag now. it's a great value and i'm sure you can get 2-3 years out of it (depending on how many trips you take), but it definitely won't last like a good down bag. comfort isn't as good as down, but warmth was initially decent (it kept me through 20-30 deg when i first bought it, but i don't think it would do that now).

Customer Service

i'm an rei member and think they have the greatest service. if i had bought the bag new and was disatisfied, i'm sure they would have allowed me to return it, no problem.
