Good sleeping bag if don't use it much... After one winter of use, mine looked like a blanket. In fact, it loose a lot of loft after beiing compressed repeatedly. Good price, of course, but does not last for a long time. Now, I opted for high quality down bag wich is so much more expensive but will last forever!

Damn good sleeping bag for the price. The best part was its versitility... Stayed warm in well below zero storms and wasn't soaking in sweat in 40-50 degree weather like many other winter bags would lead to. Comfy and colorfull, what else could you ask for? I could ask for who ever broke into my car and stole it to give it back, but they are probably enjoying it as much as I had. Oh well. Anyway, good overall bag, for anyone who sleeps out in 50 to -20 degree weather!

Normally I am a quite cold sleeper and i had previously used cheap ($70) sleeping bags and this was my first decent sleeping bag from a decent manufacturer, I had heard great things about The North Face, and having just purchased a Tent from them which was good untill recently I thought i would buy again from them for the quality and customer service. I had to chose between the Tundra (-20) or the Darkstar (-40) but i had to go for the tundra for the money. It took quite alot to pack it into the stuff sack originally however recently it has lost alot of its size and has become alot thinner after use. Last weekend i was hiking through the New Forest and didn''t bring either a tent, ground mat, or bivy bag so i was forced to sleep on the ground without cover, just my luck it started raining really heavily, I stayed dry till until 5 am when i felt the zip leaking, (could TNF not use one of their brilliant water-proof zippers to finish off this product) I''m never hot, always comfortable and it doesn''t let the weather/cold through and as i dont use it for real snow blizzard expeditions it suits me fine. I probably could have got a better price if i had looked but i was only in the states for 3 weeks. But overall it hasn''t let me down.

Customer Service

None so far, but i am going to ask for some Water-Proof zippers if they will do it for me.

This bag is an excellent when keeping you warm. The only draw back of this bag is that it is hart to stuff into my backpack and the back is on the heavyier side. But if a resonable price grabs your attention and the weight and stuffing problems don't bother you, this is the bag for you.

The bag is my alltime favorite. I have lived in this bag, and stayed warm sleeping in my car in Aspen for a 2 week period. Its ability to maintain heat is fantastic (though stuffing it in teh morning can be a challange). It is not the lightest bag by any means, but for my purposes it had been terrific. It still has its loft and it's a keeper.

My preferred backpacking season is from October-March in the upper Midwest, and the Tundra -20 is up to the task. It is very warm and the loft is so cushioning I refer to my bag as my ""backcountry Hilton"". It is nice to have a bag that I can look forward to crawling into in very cold nights.

The Mountain Hardwear 5th dimension sleeping bag is extremely warm. Although it does not pack real well. It offers almost to much room inside.sleeping in the fetal position is not a problem. On my last winter backpacking trip in the upper peninsula of Michigan in mid December the temperature was -10.I used a Northface Soloist bivy sack and did quite well. I had a lot of ice in my bivy sack head area. but I slept very warm all night. This is a great sleeping bag. The only real complaint I have is the huge hood. It is entirely to large. The quality of the sleeping bag is excellent, and it holds heat like a portable oven. I have a Marmot Col DL, A TNF Solar Flare DL, Both bags are excellent, The MH is the only Extreme cold synthetic I have ever owned, It works well and I highly recommemd it.

I bought this bag on closeout from Campmor and plan on returning it soon. The bag is very attractive, and very comfortable and the temperature rating is accurate.

So what is the problem? This bag barely fits into my backpack. First off, TNF does not supply this bag with a compression sack. I got one of my old compression sacks and after about 20 minutes of wrestling with different packing methods, I got it into my backpack, problem was it took up about 1/3 of the pack.

The second problem is it is a tad on the heavy side.

However if the weight and bulk of the sleeping bag don't bother you then I say go for it, this bag will keep you very warm and comfortable for a low price.

The warmest bag I have ever used. I woke up with a big "ice ball" from where I had breathed on it all night. Dried quickly. It is a bit tight for my body and fits so snug around the head I felt a little claustrophobic but I got over that. I like to sleep on my side and it worked well. In warmer weather, I did not sweat. I have used it in temperature ranges from 5 f to 29 f. It would be uncomfortable to throw in a water botle or other stuff that I did not want to freeze. (6'2 220#). It is also tough to store in my backpack.

I bought this bag at mgear.com and i absolutely love it! The draft liner is great - it keeps out the cold wind. I go backpacking with my Boy Scout troop (#191 for all those scouters out there) and our tents aren't that great, but this bag keeps me very, very warm no matter how told the inside of out tent gets. The only thing that i could imagine could be better is the Darkstar.

Customer Service

Mgear.com is great - friendly service, and the have the gear i can find no where else for relatively low prices. Great people.
