I'm 6'2", 250 lb. and 47 years old. I've been using these for about 4 years and wake up with no soreness or stiffness (at least no more than at home!). I also bought the cover that makes these into chairs. The "chairs" work great in camp or in a canoe. I wish they dried a little quicker after a day on the river, but useing them damp doesn't affect how they sleep.

Outstanding Pad!! Read other reviews carefully, the only people who had problems with these pads didn''t know what they required for their needs. This is NOT for car camping or for most minimalists. It is designed for backpacking and light to moderate camping. For that reason it does exactly what it''s supposed to do VERY WELL! It is very comfortable, warm and compact. Light enough for multi day backpacking trips. If you are looking for a pad that will provide comfort and warmth at a light weight, this is your pad. If you want a thicker, wider or minimalist pad look elsewhere. Know what you needs are before buying any pad.

It's certainly comfortable, especially if you need extra padding on your hips/back, but I always felt like it was too narrow -- I've rolled off of it in my sleep and wound up on the ground. I think that for car camping, there are better choices available, such as air mattresses or cots, but for backpacking, this thing is certainly something that helps me sleep better.

My wife bought me the thermarest standard long. This product is GREAT! We paddle the BWCA at least once a year and you only pack the bare essentials. I would not go to the BWCA without it. It rolls up nice and small compared to other products. Once, after pulling up the tent to move on I noticed that I was sleeping on an exposed tree root. I never felt a thing when I was sleep that night. It is very nice to get great sleep after a long day of paddling and to have the energy to paddle some more the following day! I highly recomend it!!!

This is a great all around pad. It insulates well in the cold. I prefer to blow extra air into the mattress to firm it up. If you're looking for a quality workhorse air mattress, this one is for you.

Customer Service

Cascade Designs rocks...I had a Thermarest that was about 15 years old that had started to leak. After 2 failed attempts to fix them, I sent it back to CD with a note telling them to bill me for any repairs. Less than a week later, I had a brand new mattress sitting on my front door step. They definitely take care of their customers.

I am *so* glad I upgraded to an inflatable mattress! I spent several nights last year on glaciers using a thin single foam pad, feeling like I was sleeping directly on the snow and shivering like there was no tomorrow. My first night on snow using this pad was unbelievably better - I couldn't feel a spot of cold beneath me with that firm layer of air! (I also couldn't feel any bumps or lumps of any sort through it.) It's a lot heavier than my foam mattress was, but it definitely makes up for its weight in warmth (and comfort)! As an aside, this model is better than most of the others because it's not as wide (by about 5 inches, I think), which is an issue not only for packing small (and light) but for sleeping in less-roomy 4-season tents.

A super-lightweigt, thin generic foam pad - great for warmer weather and for someone who can sleep on a few rocks (which I can) ... but once you start sleeping on cold ground or snow, forget it!

Does a great job. Definately cheaper than a crappy nights sleep and injury due to said sleep loss. Simple, affordable, repairable. What more could you want.

This is a slightly different review than the usual "used it for the last 10 years and its great" type review. Ive used closed cell foam pads (we call them Gaper Mats) for the last 10 years and have always hated them. Recently, on a hike in the Magaliesberg I was informed that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and that light is a Therm-A-Rest. One of the hikers had one and showed it to me. I wasnt entirely convinced (it looked a little thin?). Well, yesterday I went to a Kayak Centre (my buddies want to purchase a kayak) and I saw the Therm-A-Rest. I asked the assistant if I could test it on the shop floor and they immediately unpacked one and unrolled it onto the floor. It self-inflated and I lay down on it. Awesome!!! My hips dont touch the ground below and it moulds to the shape of the body (ever so slightly) to give the required support. I immediately purchased it and slept on it last night. So, this review is written after exactly 1 nights sleep on the mat. The verdict: Fantastic, I slept really well (on the floor at home :-) Recommendation: If you dont already have one, you really should!

Customer Service

Customer service in South Africa is as rare as rocking horse sh*t, but they do have an international policy which is hopefully also implemented here. According to other reviewers I wont need any customer service all too soon.

Simply a luxury!!! I get more comfortability, sleep and feel warmer and cosy with it. Can't feel no stones and roots with it. Though it's much heavier than my old mat, but the benefits it gives outweighs the weight.
It's what i really look forward to... lying down on this therma-rest after a long hard day of trekking!! Two thumbs up!!!

nice little set up. warm for the cold winters and worth the extra weight over the guidelight if your going sub-zero. I use it in my home as a bed, very durable.
