This is my third Coleman pack stve over the last thirty years and I would rate it about average for what it is intended to do. It boils water at a satisfactory rate, generally requires preheating paste in winter, takes alot of fuel cylinder pumping to get it "rolling",and is relatively dependable. I like the fact that it came with quite a complete spare parts kit and that one is able to simmer with it. I would say it still is not the stove that my original first generation Peak One is (30 years old) and still going ,but I really am satisfied with its performance when all is said and done. I would recomend it to anyone looking for a white gas pack stove.

Purchased about 4 months ago. Used on kayaking trips and backpacking in the Catskill Mountains. Has been a pretty good stove, used from 45 down to 15 degrees F. The stove flares up when lit almost every time but soon dies down to normal. The only real complaint is that the knob on the fuel canister itself is hard to open with cold fingers. Simmers well and boils water pretty quick. The fold out legs are a nice option for unstable surfaces.

Nice stove. Sort of large but nests inside my GSI pot set. Burner warped a bit after extended use but doesn't affect operation. Simmers better than some stoves tried. Great deal forget the hype about other brands.

I bought this unit about 4 years ago for a backpacking trip here in Missouri. The ability to simmer was one of the biggest selling points for me. The only problem I have had is when using a Bakepacker oven with it the burner would warp to the point that pots had a difficult time staying upright on it. A quick check of the Coleman website and I was able to replace the burner itself and now it is like having a new stove. I have had this stove in tempuratures as low as 10 degrees and as hot as 90 degrees with no problem with lighting except of the occasional flare up when first starting. A few quick turns of the adjustment valve and the problem would go away. This unit breaks down for easy storage for backpackers that value space and weight. It is also good for paddling for the same reasons. Maintenance parts are still available at most sporting goods stores.
Good buy!

I purchased this stove three years ago, when I first started canoeing again. I have been very happy with it, it looks like it takes up a lot more room than other backpacking stoves, however when you look at the area needed to pack it, it is very close to the MSR WhisperLite 600. I have used the stove in temperatures from 30 to 80 degrees and have seen no difference in the ability to light it. The stove has two flame controls; one on the fuel tank and one on the stove. I only use the one on the stove and have no problems, keeping walleye fillets warm, or bringing water to a quick boil. Since the Apex2 comes with everything you need to operate, you can buy this stove and head out. If you need an inexpensive good quality stove, this is it.

When I was looking for a part for my coleman lantern, I found that I could go to Coleman.com order any parts I need for my stove online. The web site contains a complete diagram on how the stove goes together and the parts needed.
