I purchased this product approximately three years ago, and the problem I am going to describe to you is to the best of my knowledge has been corrected. I am involved with a local Boy Scout troop, and one of my friends also had a Colman Xpert. During the course of one of our outings, his stove cable (the metal one connecting the fuel canister to the actual stove) ruptured. This caused propane to spew out of the cable, wasting the remainder of propane and rendering his stove unusable. Fortunately, the accident did not cause a fire, but with vast amounts of propane flying around it was definitely possible. Personally, I figured he had neglected his equipment, thus causing the problem, but about a year later it also happened to me. I have always taken meticulous care of all my equipment, but it seems, despite how hard you work to maintain your purchase, there is no feasible way to prevent this from occurring. Once the cable gets bent (probably inside your pack) it will damage the Teflon innards and cost you 28 to fix. Despite this, the XPERT is a great stove; it boils water extremely quickly, has a very good simmer, and lights ever time. I am sure the newer model has been fixed to prevent this problem, and I would consider it a good option; just get a newer one!

I bought the x-pert based on a referral from a friend and I have to say it definately meets my needs. I have used the x-pert in all types on temperatures. It has performed flawlessly. It can simmer, bring water to boil quickly and the fuel is easy to locate. I normally take the large canister for weekend use for a group of 3 people and have some fuel left over. The hiker is designed for larger pots and you don't feel that you need worry that the pot is going to flip off. I would reccommend this for anyone needing a sturdy, dependable stove. The bonus is that if you own the x-cursion lantern, it uses the same fuel.
