I absolutely love this stove, it is a little pricey and noisy at full bore but it allows you to cook things you would at home. Couple this stove with an Outback Oven and you will be eating really well. This stove allows me easy control over flame to bake without burning. I also love the MSR reliability factor and that it is maintanable in the field.

Burns hot and fast. A little noisy. Easy to clean and service. Fairly light weight.

Usually deal with REI. Shop staff usually has parts and can service if you're too lazy to do it yourself.

I've used this stove for about a year now in hot and cold weather. I think it is a good stove that should meet the needs of most average backpackers. I have only used white-gas and have had zero problems in 5 trips with probably 30-40 burnings.

I bought this stove mainly due to the MSR name and the flame control of this model. Half the reason, I go camping is to cook and eat outdoors. The Dragonfly was definately for me. I went bikepacking in W.VA last summer. Some of the riding was quite technical and slippery. As a result a fell quite a few times (ok, many times). I'm sure I fell on the stove a few times! Still each afternoon and morning, this stove fired right up. I found the flame control and the durability to be far superior to the whisperlite and would recommend this stove if you love to cook or if you don't like to hear your rice as you chew it. The only drawbacks are the price ($99 yikes) and the weight (when biking up hills for miles, every oz counts).

A bit on the expensive side, but worth it if you are looking for precise flame control. I've never seen another stove that can even compete with it in this respect. Also seems very durable. I've been using mine regularly for about a year now and it has never clogged or needed any kind of maintanence. Only real problems: is definately very noisy, and you will need the windscreen on breezy days.

I bought the stove around spring time in 98, getting ready to to to the Adirondacks for the summer. I enjoyed being able to boil water quickly and then to turn down the flame either to keep the food warm or make something that did not need so much heat. It does semi-well in the wind just as long as you keep the flame up and the wind shield aroud it. The two biggest problems for me was the price and the fact the a small bit of water dripping out of a pot on the stove can put out the flame. Other than this, the stove is light, hot burning, and dependible in most situations. Also with this stove white gas is the way to go unless you really just can't get any where you are, with other gasses everything ends up really sooty and the jet will become clogged sooner.

As a canoeist and backpacker I really like this stove. I've only had experience using white gas with it, but it burns hot and LOUD. It sounds like a jet plane taking off...constantly. I grew up on Coleman Peak 1, so this MSR boils considerably faster. The beautiful part is that is also is infinitely adjustable. Simmering pasta is no problem. The only real problem is not watching boil overs which put out the flame. It is a pricey stove, but over the long run I think its a pretty good decision.

Coleman Peak 1 and multi-fuel are okay if you have the patience to wait for water to boil.

I love camp stoves. After resisting MSR enthusiasts because of my love of the Svea 123 and the Optimus OO I managed to buy a whisperlight on sale just to take it apart. I liked the materials and construction and decided to fire it up and it burned so well that I never looked back. Since then I have owned the Whisperlight International and the XGK II. These were built of superior materials and super field maintainable but full on or off. At least I can have a conversation sitting next to my whisperlight but had to ditch the XGK because of the ear shattering noise. The Dragonfly is so flame adjustable that it is easily the most adjustable liquid fule stove ever made for backpackers. A virtual blowtorch with white gas but can be turned down quickly to maintain a gentle simmer and low fule consumption. A loud device at full blast but controls so smoothly and easily. First class stuff. Now I'm spoiled and will not be able to go back to any other stove without missing my Dragonfly. Expensive but very well engineered and worth every cent.

This is the perfect do everything stove. I have used it for biking, mountaineering, backpacking and lighting the trail in a pinch. This is a multi-fuel stove so no wasted fuel bottles, and will run on almost anything which is important for any travil. However this is nothing new the XGK II did all of that. What sets this stove apart is that it is as easy and adjustable as is any propane stove while being environmentally friendly. I have had this stove for a year and would recommend it to amyone willing to pay the $100 it is well worth the money.

Customer Service

MSR is great they stand behind what the make 100%. I delt with them many times for other stoves for customers when I worked at a shop and they were always very helpful.

I have used this stove in all types of weather in West Virginia, North Carolina and Florida and am very pleased with it. It is very adjustable and always lights without a problem. Water boils very quickly and the stove is stable despite the fact that it is very compact.
