This stove has served both myself and my son well, boils water in 3-4 minutes. It is compact at about 3oz. Fuel does weight more though.

I only use this stove for making coffee in the morning to avoid gas smell from msr. Heats well but if coffee spills on burner clean up is a pain. In British Columbia hardware stores carry a compatible canister. Problems: Wind , I use the MSR XGK windscreen. Cold, has been a problem for me even at 0 C or 32 F the stove quits the burner goes out and yes the MSR canisters. Yes it helps to insulate the canister but this is below par to me.

Customer Service

MSR has always had great CS

I've never been a big fan of the butane stoves, because of the non-recyclable nature of the canisters, but recently I was forced to try one out. Ihad just bought an Optimus Nova, on the advice of Backpacker Mag., and 4 days into a thru-hike of the AT, it developed a terminal fuel-line leak. So, into the nearest town we went, in search of a cheap replacement. Well, we got it! The Pocketrocket was not only cheaper than any white gas stove, it was the cheapest of the canister stoves too. It lasted the rest of the trip(approx 130 meals, or 20 total hours of burn time), with no problems whatsoever. And we had no problem obtaining canisters on the trail. A typical 405ml canister will last about 13-15 meals at about 5 minutes burn time. just buy one, you won't be sorry. If you're reading this, you know you want one, or you already have one, and you know what I'm saying is true. Happy trails!

For most of us, this is the stove to have. Small, light, adjustable flame, easy (brainless) to use. Cannisters can be a pain for long trips but for most trips are easy work fine. Have a year and about 30 nights - 50-60 meals on this stove. No problems. Just put the cannister inside your jacket for a few minutes if it is cold.

I used it only once, on a 2 weeks hike in Scotland. I bought it, because the flight company didn't allow me to take my XGK with me. This little flamethrower is however quite a miracle. It's light, the pot is securely carried by the stove (it never slides of) and it is easy to handle. Canisters cost a fortune, compared to the price of the stove. Specially when you're used to liquid fuel stoves, gas is expensive. At this very moment the stove is in repair, because I thought to smell a little gas. There might be a leak somewhere. I have confidence in MSR however. I'll write another review when I get it back. Untill now, I'm really satisfied with the stove, and I think I will take it with me on short trips instead of the XGK. When your hikes are relatively short I would always take this stove. If you're going away for a longer time and you are not sure if you can buy cannisters, I would take a liquid fuel stove. If you know that you can buy the cannisters, take the pocket rocket.

This is a great little stove. I used it on a 10 week hike on the AT and had great meals the entire way. I could crank it up and boil a pot of water very quickly and then once I had dinner in the pot, turn it right down for an easy simmer. Every meal I cooked was good. The stove is extremely small and light weight. The only down side is the fuel canister required. The size is ok but it is non-refillable, so when a canister is low, you have to either carry a second or throw out the old one, wasting what fuel was left. However, since the canisters only cost 4-7 dollars (most every outfitter carries them), it's not a big loss. On the upside, I got a month's worth of use out of each canister. I would highly recommend this stove.

I haven't needed it.

I've used this stove in all manner of applications over the past year. From seaside summer camping, backcountry biking, winter ski touring, and mountaineering. And it's performed admirably. I haven't managed to knock it over, so it's stable enough. But be sure you do set it up well, as it is a farily tall stove. It certainly burns very hot, but I find with titanium cookware you need to be careful not to burn your food. Perhaps it's due to the thin material. Even in cold conditions and at mild altitudes (7000ft) this stove did not dissapoint. It's one downfall is overboiling. I wasn't paying attention while boiling pasta and it overboiled, and the goo from the water gummed up the holes on the stove fairly badly. Yeah, it was my fault, but it didn't work again until after a lot of cleaning. So all up, it's a great little stove. For long periods of time a liquid fuel stove will always be a better choice, but for fast and light trips, this is a great choice.

If Fastpacking is your game, this is an excellent stove for the task. It's extremely lightweight, compact and has a nice flame adjustability. I'm not crazy about fuel canisters, but the performance out weighs the additional weight of the canister.

This is quite an amazing stove. I have been skeptical of canister set-ups for awhile now.. but they have always peaked my interest. This is by far the best one on the market for the money. The pocket rocket will hit a boiling point with 10 oz of water in 55F about 14 times on one MSR 8oz fuel canister. Thats pretty remarkable... actually. I mark on the canister how many times I''ve used it, then carry a backup canister until the main one runs out. The stove is pretty good in strong winds, although.. like all stoves it will eat up the fuel. I made a windguard out of doubled aluminum foil. Only cover the stove 2/3 of the way.. or you will be making a bomb in the woods! Anyway, this improves the performance in windy conditions. This stove is being used by thru-hikers.. and will definately lighten your load. With a full fuel, stove.. etc. it weighs 16 oz.
