Having used the Whisperlight for years, I really appreciate the ease of this stove. I experienced a lot of clogging problems with the Whisperlight. I like not having to prime the Rapidfire too.

This is the easiest stove I have ever used. It doesn't have the power of the white gas stoves, but the quick set-up makes up the difference. My favorite feature is the adjustable flame. In cold weather I just put the can inside my jacket for a few minutes to warm it up and no problem.

The only drawback is the Iso-Butane cans are not recyclable

Great stove for boiling water but it is worthless for actually trying to cook on due to the limited adjustment. priming is a pain in the butt. They are reliable though.

I am a soldier. I have jumped this stove out of planes, I recently took this stove with me to a 12 day field exercise with one SMALL msr bottle. I used it everyday and didn't run out of fuel until the last day. This thing is still in one piece after much abuse(there are no soft landings from planes). No problems at all.

This stove is great for the occasional user or car camper. I use it for short trips climbing and some car camping with the wife. Easy set-up, adjustable flame. On the down side, only one fuel can be used (Isobutane) and the canisters must be packed in AND OUT!!!

I also use the XGK II for high altitude trips.

This stove is good for family and car camping. Otherwise, when used in a climbing application the stove just dosent stand up! It takes forever to melt snow no matter what altitude and runs out of fuel WAY too quick! The Iso-butane clinders leak after you take them off the stove, and generally the stove is way more hassle than its worth. It is lightweight, and I like that, but in past experience it is unreliable.

I have used more than 1 kind of MSR stove than this one. All I have to say is Yuck. No luck with any of them.

All around a pretty good stove. However, it does not perform up to the standered MSR says it does in cold weather, i.e.- snow. I have used it on a number of snowcamping and mountaineering trips. I have used it in weather down to 0 degrees F. It tends to sputter when the temp. gets around 35 degrees, and the canister needs to be held. At 25 degrees the stoves flame is about half as hot as it is at 60 degrees at sea level. The altitude has no affect on this stove what so ever. Climbers use this stove on the higher camps on Everest and K2, don't ask me why, I have never had a canister stove as cold as this on a winter trip. Even the Camping Gaz stoves perform better. I would reccomend the MSR XGK II for all winter camping.

This is a great product. A lot of the reviews here are because people bought the wrong stove for the job. This is not a Whisperlite even though they are all built from the same platform. It's very different. The similar platform, however, makes it very field maintainable, but it's unlikely that you'll need it. It has as good of a simmer option as the 100+ dollar dragonfly and there are none of the sputtering and cleaning problems associated with multi-fuel stoves. It is not a snow melting stove. All you have to do is look at the temp rating on the can for that. It's also not an international travel stove. No canister stoves are. The new isopro canisters are getting there, but will never rival white gas for mountaineering pursuits. The rapidfire happens to be a great hiking/canoeing stove that handles the needs of car campers to multi-day backpackers. In a lot users, this stove is a better choice than more expensive models. Many people get sold on gadgets they don't need. Are you really depending on refueling at unknown fuel sources? or are you just filling up from the same can of white gas in your garage? How often do you do international hiking? I know all of these tricks, because I used to sell stoves. As for packing the empty canister out, I think that complaint is uncalled for. I don't see people leaving fifteen dollar liquid gas bottles in the wilderness, and they shouldn't leave the disposable cans out there either. The weights for the cans are comparable to their liquid gas counterparts. All in all. It's a great product. I'd give it more than five stars for value if I could.

Also have a titanium snowpeak gigastove, a dragonfly, a whisperlite intl., and a trangia. All are different stoves for different uses, although the dragonfly has replaced my whisperlite.

I have only used this stove twice, but enjoy it every time I use it. It is as quick as a propane grill to light and boils very fast. I have used a whisperlite a few times and hated dealing with the fuel, and the smell. The rapidfire is much less of a hassle.

MSR has a new fuel cartrige for their canister stoves which is, by their account, better. I want to try it out before I pass judgement. I don't seem to have any problems with the current "shaving cream" size cans.

Simple to setup and use. Great for warmer weather but really should not be used for freezing or sub-freezing temperatures.

I have found that other iso-butane canisters work with the stove too and these have a higher capacity. (Like the Primus ones) MSR would probably not recommend it. Grin ...
