Great stove. Light and easy to maintain. Is very reliable in the field when used for any kind of cooking. Simmering is possible when using the stove depressurised. It heats like a blow torch at full power. Only problem can be the initial heating-up of the stove, this covering the burner with soot, and causing an unpredictable flame engulfing the stove. Performance is superb, however and the stove is very quiet when burning. I would strongly reccommend this to any backpacker who is weight and performance concious. Customer Service none required. Great stove, especially suited for cold conditions and melting snow. Only problem is simmering, but can be done with practice, care, and attention. Once you learn how to simmer, this stove is quite usable for most dishes. Works great with both shellite (white gas) and kerosene, although kero is more prone to clogging. Shaker jet seems to work. My wife and I have owned a WhisperLite since 1988 and it has been a reliable and true friend. Fires up coffee on a cold morning lickity split. When travelling on a bike tour with it, we tried a variety of fuels, and it performed fairly well. If I remember the fuels we used in Australia & New Zealand. we did notice that Lp gas was less effective than white gas. The only maintenance issue has been maintaining the gas line. To do so, we clean it once a year or every 30 uses (whichever comes first). We have also replaced it once with parts from REI. Overall, a great little stove that's simple in design and fast. Customer Service None other than help at REI. Similar Products Used: Coleman Peak 4(?) We take it along for car camping to have a second burner. It's convenient for that since it's a one piece unit, but definitely less flexible for packing since it's all in one. The Whisper lite is much more advanced. |

Great stove, a little unstable on some surfaces or with top-heavy pots (duh). Make sure to inspect the status of your fuel bottle valve. One went up on my buddy on the Uncompaghre and we just about had a major forest fire on our hands. Super lite, efficient fuel use. Careful of flareups if cooking in a vestibule. Obviosly from the amount of reviews this The Stove. It is light weight and reliable. I have had to rebuild mine, but the repair kit was readily available and it was very simple to rebuild. I am back to a quick boil when I need it. Similar Products Used: None |

This stove hastreated me incredibly well. It just returned from a week of backpacking in the Desert without any problems from all of the sand. The stove is easy to self-maintain and can be broken down entirely using only a small tool included with the stove. It makes backcountry repairs a cinch. Similar Products Used: Peak 1, Gaz |

This stove works great. Easy to light, lots of heat, and very compact and light. Only draw back is that it doesn't simmer very well; but big deal, when I'm hungry I want to eat as soon as its done anyhow. Similar Products Used: None |

This stove is great.Their lightweight, easy to clean(but they do get really sooty),reliable, and they can use multiple types of fuels. This comes in handy when you can get the white gas.I highly recommend this stove. Similar Products Used: None |

Been using this stove for the last year in various conditions through South America, from the coastline up into the Andes. Cooks for me wherever I am and burns just about whatever fuel you can come across. Had problems with kerosene at altitude so switched to petrol ... haven't tried kero again so don't know if this was a one off ... but petrol works good for me. Light weight and ease of maintenance (so few parts) make it a backpackers cooking dream. Similar Products Used: None |
