MSR WhisperLite Internationale 600 Stove Stoves

MSR WhisperLite Internationale 600 Stove Stoves

DESCRIPTION

Whether it's white gas, kerosene, jet fuel or automobile gasoline, the Whisperlite Internationaleâ„¢ takes it all and burns it easily. The secret is in the large diameter fuel line that lets you burn poor-quality fuel with less maintenance or cleaning than other so-called multi-fuel stoves. Like the Whisperlite Shaker Jet Stove, the Whisperlite Internationaleâ„¢ features a Shaker Jet needle, which automatically pushes out any excess fuel debris with a simple flick of the wrist.

Great for international backcountry adventures, backpacking, mountaineering, kayaking and camping

Windscreen, heat reflector, fuel pump and reusable stuff sack included 14 oz. (400 g.)

I've only had my own Whisperlite for a few months. But I've used a friend's many times. He always wanted to a get a new stove: been through the 600, XGK and now the Dragonfly. I really don't care for the dragonfly.

I've heard people say the Whisperlite is noisy. They should try the XGK or Dragonfly to find out what noisy is.

The Whisperlite is pretty light and compact, burns hot and is quiet. My friend ended up having problems with his Whisperlite, it wouldn't burn well. That was after a couple years of use and he had never cleaned the fuel line, and he tends to be rough with his gear. A tip I just learned...keep the stove attached to the fuel bottle when packing, that way the fuel line stays much cleaner, which is said to be the most common source of stove problems.

My biggest concern about the durability of the stove is at some point, the legs aren't going to lock in place like they should. I've heard this as a complaint from several Whisperlite owners and I can see how that could happen. One solution to that (I already use one anyway) is to use a stove base, such as the Trillium one MSR makes.

I bought my stove about a year ago and it kicks. I have relied on this stove for a hot meal at the end of the day an unimagenable number of times (well mabe not that many but alot)and it has never let me down, not once. even on the 70+ mi. canoeing expedition down the Big Turtle River in Canada this summer. I have never had to replace any parts or fix anything. This is undoubtly the finest, most reliable, and most versitile stove that I have ever owned. If you are researching stoves, I suggest any MSR stove especially the international 600, you won't regret it. (visit MSRs website at msrcorp.com)

Owned for six years, used thousands of times. Never replace, fixed, cleaned or cussed. Burned Bacardi 151 in a pinch. Spend the extra cash.

I've used my Whisperlite for a few years now and have been hiking above 13,000 feet for over a week at a time. The fuel consuption and reliability is perfect. It's well worth the hassle of set-up and priming. I can't trust the other canister stoves to light in cold conditions---especially being with a guy who had a propane canister blow up in his pack from the altitude.

Okay, Donna. Obviously if you catch your leg on fire, you have bigger problems than not liking your stove's design. Geeze--what a retard! Anyway, I have had my MSR for six years now with nary a complaint. What is not to like? It cooks faster and hotter than anything on the market short of a Rolls Royce jet engine! For those who complain about not being able to simmer with their WhisperLite, maybe you should just stay inside to make your bananas foster and let those of us who have no problem eating cus cus for months on end enjoy the great outdoors. . . .

I found this stove to be messy and fuel spills easily. I even accidently caught my leg on fire! Be careful. The stove always had a lot of soot on it which got on my hands and clothes. I eventually got another stove.

I don't see what all the fuss is about concerning the simmering!! I have cooked eggs on this thing without so much as a scorch mark on the white! Takes a bit a practice (about 5 minutes worth that is!) and you got it down pat.
This thing is a work horse, easy to clean and field maintain. Unless you do the 30 day hike thing, and don't prepare elaborate meals, the smaller size bottle will do you just fine. I let this thing burn for one hour straight on the 'melt rock' setting and used about an ounce of fluid, maybe 1.5 oz. Great stove for the money. Got this one bundled with some decent cookware from REI-Outlet.com. Great purchase for $79 including the pots and pans. Get one if you are serious about your equipment. The Mightylite base is a nice touch too!

This is an amazing stove! Never had any clogs that couldn't be cleared in the bush. (Only had a couple that didn't resolve with a shake!) It boils water very quickly, but of course simmer control is non-existent. I find it hard to believe that it wouldn't light at -20, because I've lit it flawlessly in -40C. Great product, good company.
