I must say, this is not only the most versatile stove made but probably the most reliable. It rivals only its cousin, the whisperlite, in performance. If you are a backcountry traveler or a mountaineer there is no better companion than the XGK, believe me!

Customer Service

I just had one EXPLODE on me. Melt down of the plastic head at the bottle and spitting fuel and flames all over the place. Shrapnel through the tent and all over the place. I had the thing between my legs cooking up some dinner when the flames shot out. I kicked the thing away from me and ran for cover.

I called MSR and they wanted me to send the thing in for replacement. They were surprised.

I have owned this stove for over twenty years, burned multiple fuels, and I have never, never, had to clean it. It is a sure fire reliable blow torch.

This is a great stove when used for what it was designed. This stove burns everything and burs as hot or hotter than any stove out there, even at altitude. It does not simmer. Don't even bother to try. If you are looking for a light weight stove that will burn anything and melt snow or boil water or boil dinner, this is the stove for you.

Just returned from north Ploe with Borge Ousland. Still using old XGK II ( 10 years) . Noisey but a great comfort everytime it fires up . Wouldn't use anything else. I will use it on my Solo unsupported North Pole walk next year from Canada. Perhaps even get sponcored a couple of dragonflies to test.

Customer Service

Never had to send stove back.

Had a few problems with a peak 1 (coleman) but this unfortunate fellow now rests at the deepest point of an ocean(minus fuel). iam sure coeman have solved this problem. Iam reliable informed that, they make excellent grenades when they start playing up. Poletosummit@yahoo.com

ive never had any other unit, but ive tried friends when weve used their stoves. simply stated: the multifuel options, the quality manurfacturing, the easy access usage, the compactability and their repair kit (just incase) has sold me from the 1st time til now, over 10 yrs later without a single problem and its gotten aloooooooot of use. id reccomend it to anyone, be they starting out (invest in the best, its woth the immediate investment) or wilderness gnomes at heart for yrs....

Loud stove. Works everytime. Boils water. Not for car camping. this has worked @ 14,000ft w/o problems; and below 0degrees w/o problems. Have run on white gas; car gas, and kerosene -- worked like a charm!

Customer Service

Yes, the XGK II; synonymous with jet engine; for those who know, I need say little more; i've used the XGK II since the early 90's for a winter climb on Mt. Washington, summer treks through the swamps of Louisiana, on military maneuvers, and yes, to thaw a frozen radiator! This stove has been submerged along with fuel bottle in swampwater, tramples on, and lit in a downpour; the simple is no substitute for this stove as a workhorse when a product must work regardless of atmospheric condition, fuel, and care; it cooks, heats, melts snow! Mission accomplished!

Customer Service

none, never needed it!

MSR XKG stove. I have owned this stove since the 1970's. Used it several times a day for two month/year for two consecutive years, and for @ 20 day/year over a 15 year period. I have never had a problem with the stove. It'll burn anything but peanut butter! If your traveling abroad and unsure of the fuel availability or fuel quality buy this stove!
You cannot beat this stove ... but it is a flame thrower, without a very good simmer ... for that you need another MSR. I have that too.

Customer Service

Customer service has always been excellent for me ... even though I have only had to call them twice over 20 years. You don't need any customer service!
