I've had this stove for over ten years and have used it all over the world! I've sat on it, stepped on it, dropped it and it still works great. My only complaint is the noise - sounds like a jet engine taking off - and there is no simmer, or volume setting.

BUY AN MSR, NOTHING ELSE IS AS GOOD. I've had my XGK for 5 years of heavy use. I've done nothing more than clean the feul line a couple of times. It makes a racket, but nothing will work as well given really bad treatment, it burns damn hot and fast, and once you get used to it you CAN simmer it quite easily. My has been kicked dropped bashed, you name it, it;s done it and come through with flying colours. MSR Rocks!!

This is a little jet engine sitting on a rock. It get really hot, really quick and you can hear it from across the lake. Well not really across the lake but it is loud. It's also maintainable in the field. That is a plus.

MSR XGK stove. Ido not think this stove is worth the $80+ price tag. It sound like a jet engine and I have never been able to achieve a steady burn for simmering. There are other stoves that friends have that are quiet and can simmer well. I have also had the problem with the point where ther stove hooks into the pump. At random times it will start leeking and all of the sudden the whole stove and fuel bottle are engulfed in flames. This is kind of scary, not to mention that it melts the pump which can be a definite inconvience in the back country.

Customer Service

My uncle had his XGK leak fuel around the pump and it caught fire up on the saddle of the Grand Teton. It melted his pump. MSR sent him a new stove after he told them about his experiance, so the customer service rocks.

An excellent stove, easily maintained. I've owned my stove for over 15 years and beat the crap out of it. It still works great. It acts like the Saturn V rocket for boiling water, but takes some experience getting it to simmer. The $5 maintenance kit is agreat deal, as it provides spare parts that may be needed (once every 10 years).

I've had this stove for 2 years now and it's excellent at what it does. It melts snow in no time and boils water in a flash and the noise it makes lets you know it's working. I have had it leak once but I had over pressurised the bottle. It burns anything but does not simmer too well however you can pick up a metal simmer plate in hardware stores if you don't mind a little extra weight or buy a dragonfly. It is easy to maintain and getting fuel is no problem wherever you are. A top bit of kit, the stove base for it is also good when you're on snow.

Good stove, but the Whisperlite is cheaper, and as good or better. The poor pot supports and small base can be a real problem and in head to head cookoffs I have gotten the first pot of water boiling faster with my whisperlite, even at 10,000'. Besides, that jet engine noise gets annoying when you have to melt snow for hours.
