If you want the best liquid fuel stove made, buy this one. The construction is bulletproof. Design and machining is top notch. There is nothing cheesy about this stove! The fuel bleeding feature is very nice. All metal pump, what else do you want? The only thing it isn''t is cheap, but in this case you get what you pay for.

I had been waiting for a multi-fuel stove like this to come along, and it was worth it. I had avoided MSR, the main reason being the cheap plastic pumps and my friends battles with them.I stuck to my Coleman xtreme, (which is a pretty decent stove in it''s own right)Waiting.... The Nova simmers well, lights quickly, boils pretty much in the same time frame as all the others, Has a METAL PUMP and is built with quality materials. It is expensive, but remember: You get what you pay for. I think it is an excellent stove for just about any outdoor activity

i just bout this stove 3 days ago. so far i love it but i do have some objections. when ever i turn it up high it almost like studders, some people say that it does that because its new, i dont know i just hope it goes away. and then there is a little fuel left in the line when it i turn it off. this is my first stove i dont know if this is so with all stoves but you would think that optimus would think about that one, since when u undo the line it drips out on everything. by the way does anyone know how to depressurize the stove without opening the top or can i just leave it pressurized till the next cook? over all i love the the design, really sturdy with the pot on on the ground.

This is my first liquid-fuel stove. This was the most expensive stove in its category at the time of purchase. However, if it lived up to its promises, it would be a solid investment. Boy, did I make the right choice! The NOVA is the most fuel-efficient stove I have ever used. My most recent trip with the stove was on a stormy weekend. I had less than half a bottle of fuel, and didn''t refill before leaving. The wind was fierce, and I was afraid I''d not have enough fuel after the evening meal. However, in the breezy morning, I kept a griddle hot for a full batch of pancakes and then bacon and eggs for almost an hour, and still had fuel remaining for lunch. This with only using the fuel bottle to block the wind. The flame is very adjustable. I am still learning to trust how low I can set it without losing the flame. Very impressive. It boils like a torch, however. I find I am spoiled now, "wasting fuel" on high for longer than I probably have to, because of its efficiency. It does make some noise, but there are other stoves out there that I have overheard while using my own, so I''d give it a "medium" noise rating. Priming is easy, with a small flare. I wait until I can no longer see the flame, but can hear it, and the stove starts right up. I am still getting the knack of the bottle-flip purge technique. As others have reported, this seems to take longer than it should, but again it comes from the efficiency of the unit. The design and materials cool quickly, allowing you to pack up in a hurry. The quick-connect to the fuel bottle is novel, however I too have had trouble with the fitting being "too tight" - I''ve really got to force it into position. However, it connects securely and comes off easily when released. I have no problem with fuel spray when I have properly purged the pressure. It is light-weight and compact. It comes with a nice case, and the "cleaning wand" is also your field tool. I bought it with an eye to its multi-fuel capability, but so far, I''m only using white gas. I have heard from a few others about the bottle leaking from the pump assembly shortly after purchase. In my case, too, the problem just seemed to be a dry cup. I stretched it abit, reassembled the pump (in the field, no tools), and have had no problem since. Others have written about wanting a wind-screen. That would be a nice touch, but only if the price remained the

Compared to other liquid fuel stoves, this is the cadillac. It's lighter, boils faster with less fuel, and has an all metal pump construction that will far outlast all competition. The other reviews are correct in that it takes a little longer than you would expect to turn off, and at $125 it's definitely a cadillac price. But if you want the best you sometimes have to pay for it. In this case, it's worth every penny. This stove may have been designed for extreme cold conditions, but the confidence in it's firing up time after time will be just as welcomed on a warm summer day.

I bought this stove after much research and having been dispointed with the MSR Dragonfly. I'm sure glad I did.

They are rather pricey in Oz but in the US are about $115 - $130, however that includes a fuel bottle.

The pump is metal and is very well made and smooth in operation. Infinately better than the fragile plastic MSR pump (mine shattered). The Nova pump fits MSR bottles by the way.

The general construction quality is high and robust, and it folds down very small - much smaller the DF. In fact I own an MSR Alpine cookset and the DF would not fit into it. The Nova fits with plenty of room to spare.

It's noticably quieter than the DF, but is still rather loud. It is very quick to set up and prime. I would say flame intensity and control are about the same as the DF.

The fuel line can be completely unscrewed from the stove which would make replacement easy if it ever got damaged. The DF fuel line cannot be unscrewed. I'm sure if it got damaged it could be replaced, but you'd probably have to send it off to MSR.

It burns practically anything, however the manual does warn against using certain fuels (petrol) because of the potential negative health effects (cancer). Also the jet does not need to be changed to burn alternate fuels.

The jet has a little "pricker" built in, similat to MSR's shaker jet, however you work it by moving a "magic magnet" beneath it, making it go up and down. I was dubious at first but have the knack now. You can do this while the stove is operating by the way. The magnet thing doubles up as an all purpose tool for the stove.

According to Optimus the stove weighs 420g. The DF weighs 487g. It comes with a very nice pouch, which can in fact be worn on your belt. Nice though it is as far as I'm concerned it's extra weight. My stove lives inside my cookset.

All up the pros are: excellent construction quality, metal pump, light weight, very compact, quick set up and priming, excellent flame output and adjustability.

The cons are....um....ahhh?

OK the only things I can think of are it's a little loud and Optimus could throw in an aluminium windshield.

In conclusion this stove wins hands down against the Dragonfly. In fact I think it is the best multi-fuel stove on the market. The only way they could improve it would be to make it out of titanium.

What can I say. Buy it!

This is the best stove I ever used. Primes easily, not too noisy and simmers well.

What convinced me instead of MSR was the all metal pump like all others.

The flip-over is very nice. It takes about one minutes to shut but it's almost no fuel.

really happy with my buy.

I have bought it at "Magasin Latulippe" in Quebec city but I suggest USA residents to go on their web site because with the currency rate you'll make a real deal. I think the stove does not show on the web site but call them. www.latulippe.com

Very nice stove. I bought it a couple of weeks ago and used it this past weekend for the first time. Once I got used to it, I found it really easy to light, and the immediate response when turning it down to a simmer was great - no lag time! A little pricy compared to its competitors, but a great stove. Wish they has included a wind screen in the package though.

The Optimus Nova is everything a liquid fuel stove should be, with no extraneous frills. All-metal construction, including the pump, means this gem with last for many, many years. Lighting is easy, and I've had no problem getting a quick boil at 11,000'. I like the burn-off feature where you flip the fuel bottle and clear the fuel line. And the quick-connect is also a nice feature. Overall a superb stove in the Optimus tradition.

The best stove I have ever used, and I have used a lot of them. I was sold on the seva climber untill I bought this one. I use coleman fuel in mine. I have not had a stove that used so little fuel. I have used mine for 4 months now and have had no proublems with it. I go backpacking at least 3 times a month.
