Imagine a stove within a case no bigger than a cigarette pack and a fuel cannister that fits in your coffee cup. This little guy rocks! This stove was a gift from a friend on a recent winter trip along the Chattooga river. What a gift! It boiled water before I could even get my freeze-dried packaged meal ready. It lit each time, the first time, even in the cold rain (with one hand). The adjustability ranges from blowtorch to chafing dish, boil to simmer. I got no complaints.

Customer Service

The folks at snowpeak.net were very quick to answer all my emails. They even offered to sell me one direct a few months ago before I could find one anywhere in Atlanta.

This is the easiest and safest stove to use. It lights instantly and boils quickly. I love to watch people's eyes pop when I pull out this little tiny stove and canister. The weight is great. I hardle notice it in my pack.

Nice little stove - I was amazed at how hot it burns, boils water (when using an MSR windscreen) faster than my Whisperlite. Had a minor problem with the seal using an MSR fuel canister - needed to moisten the rubber gasket and really put it on tight. Simmers well. The piezo was mysterious - worked, then didn't work (had to use matches the first night) then it started working again. It was colder (20s) the first night - that may have been the problem. Take matches for backup. Definitely benefits from a tall windscreen.

This stove is obviously light (4 oz.) and stores away very small. Just screw the stove on the fuelcan turn on fuel flow, press auto ignition and BAM you are cooking. This probably takes a whopping 20 seconds if you have one arm. Cold weather use is poor (I used Primus fuel). This problem might be overcome with one of the new MSR Isopro fuel cans. These supposedly work until 10 below zero (F). I have not tried this and will have to wait till next winter to do so. The stove is at the mercy of any wind or heavy breathing in anticipation of a hot meal. The flame control is excellent. I really like the auto ignition. I dont even carry matches or a lighter (actually in my emergency kit I carry a few windproof ones). If I need a fire I can light a small twig with this. At four ounces this is probably the best THREE season stove.

MSR dragonfly (nice and works as advertised but big and many many parts). Camping Gaz, nice inexpensive stuff but the stove can only acomidate there own brand fuel. AKA harder to find.

I am very impressed with this stove it is lightweight, easy to maintain, and fairly durable. It is very easy to start with the auto ignition (in warm weather only though). If you are planning to take this stove on a coldweather camping trip 35 and below bring matches to start it or be prepared to sit there clicking off and on for 5 minutes. If you are one of those people that sit there simmer things for 30 minutes then this is the stove for you. If you are just boiling water this stove will work for you too with a 3 minute boil time and 10,000 btu.

My only complaint is that it is not very stable at all. You have to find something flat to cook on or forget about it I have lost my dinner before with this stove. Snow Peak claims that you can only use their containers that is a bunch of bull, you can use any kind of butane/propane containers you want to use.

I have not yet seen its high altitude capabilities yet.

Customer Service

Not yet, because my stove has not messed up yet.

I bought both the Snow Peak Stove and lantern and found them to be excellent. The stove works like a champ. Easy to light and a breeze to set up. prior to the purchase I was worried about it tipping over or the pots sliding off, and the use of my Outback oven with the canister. The fears were set aside on its first use though. The stove was very stable as long as a flat surface was used, no pan/pot tipping was evident even with the outback oven pan. The stove also held it's own against my dragonfly in the out back oven, It even seemed to produce a more even bake than the MSR. It worked great, and for the size and weight it is awesome.

Customer Service

I emailed a question to them via their webpage and got an answer the next day. They even emailed a follow-up to see if everything worked out.

I heard so much about the Giga Power stove, I decided to buy 5 of them for my high school wilderness programs I teach in Alaska. They are light and very handy to use. I have had to take 2 of them back though because of ignition problems. Also, the flame adjustment is difficult to reach and gets quite hot when using any type of Outback oven. The stove is also unstable and students have lost many a meal. The MSR fuel canisters are the ticket for stability because the base of the fuel canister is alot bigger. Also, you get twice as much fuel for about 50 cents more. But the stove is awesome once it's lit and running.

This little stove seems to have started a revolution. Now all the major manufacturers are trying to put out ultralight canister stoves. For any trip less than a week, this stove is perfect. Very light, very small, and very hot, what more do you need? I've used it down to about 25 degrees without a problem. I especially like the hard case. If your use a smaller pot (I use a MSR Titan Kettle) you shouldn't have a problem with stability. Its only drwback is that it suffers in wind, but I solved that by adding a MSR windscreen. I hear it works with other canisters but have no experience with them. The Snowpeak canisters last a long time.

I bought this stove in Japan (where it is made, and one of the few things that is cheaper here than in the U.S.) for an ultralight backpacking trip to the rainforest island of Yakushima. This stove is amazing! It is superlight, amazingly compact, and incredibly easy to use. It is also very adjustable - simmer to blowtorch with a twist of the knob. The "knob" is a long wire handle that keeps your fingers away from the fire and it stays cool. I almost bought a Primus Alpine Titanium stove but I did not like their tiny knob that is way too close to the fire. The stove is very tipsy (easily solved by the fuel bottle holder from Primus) and the pot supports are not as wide or as grippy as I would like (My hiking partners accidentally sacrificed the first meal cooked on the Gigapower to the island gods!). The piezo igniter also doesn't work when it's wet or when it is very cold (you should always carry several fire sources, anyway). But these are really minor irritations for a stove that works so beautifully. I would highly recommend this for three-season use!

Customer Service

No problems so far, nor do I expect any with such a simple piece of equipment!

Primus MFS Stove - this is a great stove that I bought for international use. If it is flammable this stove will burn it. This is also the only true "multiple fuel" stove currently made. It burns all LP fuels, PLUS just about every canister fuel, too! It's a great stove, but it weighs way too much for light trips.
MSR Whisperlite & Whisperlite International 600 - these are great stoves! I have been using this for more than 10 years now without any problems whatsoever. Get the International 600 for more versatility - it burns a variety of fuels for just a few more dollars.
MSR XGK, XGKII, and Dragonfly - I like the XGKs a lot, but they are bulky to pack and are the loudest stoves I have ever experienced. I like the adjustability of the Dragonfly, but I feel that I need to baby this stove (the other MSR stoves can take just about any abuse you can dish out!) because it has more moving parts than any other stove I have ever used.
