Bought several of these packs around five years ago, and just wanted to chime in. Not very large and not many pockets, but has the basics: two big waterbottle mesh side pockets and a front pocket. Mainly the harness system is overkill and designed to haul heavy loads of maybe 40-50 pounds. The big gripe I have with the original version of this pack (the ones I have) is the pack weighs a ton! It's a very heavy pack for the size, but I guess there's no free lunch. It's due to the heavy duty fabric and the, the large hip belt, and the plastic framesheet.

This pack rocks! I've used it mountain biking and backpacking in the Andes mountains, traveling around the Caribbean, hiking around Zions National Park, and also used it as a traveling pack on tons of flights around the world. This pack is indistructible. I love the hydration pack capability and the several small pockets it has for easy access. Great waterbottle holders too. Wonderful pack that lives up to the great MountainSmith name.

I thought I might need a bit bigger pack but this one suited me fine. I wished the waist belt was a bit thicker or canted for my hips, but overall it is very comfy. The best part is the weight comes off the shoulders and seems to sit on my lower back and waist..

This is definitely the best pack I have ever owned. It is incredibly well designed with great storage and easy access. It is rugged and it has a great fit. Unless you need a pack for very extended trips, this is great for any use.

I bought the Bugaboo in 95 had have been using it for 5 years. I've thrown it, kicked it, dropped it, use it in the Himalayas...It's a functional pack for a 3-5 day trip. The side handle comes in useful. I like the harness of the pack. The pack has an internal frame as well.Great and wonderful pack!

The later versions do not seem as tough and as durable as the old ones. The velcro in the front pocket has lost it's function.

I bought the Bugaboo back in 93 before a trip to Machu Pichu. That pack has beaten, thrown off a cliff, dropped in a river etc and still is sound pack. It is a great day pack for carrying gear, although with a rope and full rack you are at full capacity. I have rigged the outter fittings to hold a rope on top of pack and this frees up a bunch of space. I highly recommend this pack for anyone needing something under a HUGE mulitday pack.

I have had this pack less than a year, but am very happy with it. It carries well, the zipper provides easy access, and it is equipped for carry a water bladder. I have used it cross-country skiing, mountain climbing, canyon hiking, and mountain biking. It carries much better than my old daypack, and works surprisingly well for mtn. biking-didn't shift around, push on the back of my neck, and I hardly noticed it was there. I got it on sale for about $120, making it a heck of a value. At full price (around $180), I probably would not have bought it, but I am kind of cheap.

Nice pack for short trips. This one is a little over built for it's intended use. Good room and easy access. The removable pocket is handy for gloves and such and doubles as a flap for storing things you don't want inside. Lots of adjustments and many tie off points.

This is the most durable multi-use pack. It has been used for mountain-adventure travel as Mtb'ing , canyoning , summer 7day wilderness bushwacking all over europes last wilderness areas. With side pockets and water bottle pockets there's enough volume for a week outdoors. I bought mine at an Rei store in 91' and the only worn out parts were a torn off velcro fastener on the front pocket and a brocken buckle(used in -50 °c winter skitouring in Lappland) on the shouldersrap suspension - both were easily fixed. The key point enabling use as a mtb pack is the removable back board and 2 alum. stays. This pack molds to your back and doesn't interfere with the continuous back-tilted head position. It's narrow profile , excelent adjustability and hugging effect with supprising weight handling capeability diserve 5 full sparkling stars

Too bad i haven't been able to locate a dealership here in europe - in germany , finland and austria . I so was forced to buy a 100 liter trekking pack from another manufacturer. Though i must say i can not complain of the Lowe Alpine Alpamajo 80+20 internal pack . Been in use now for 3 years.
