Glad I got the nuk tuk while I could. Great dad-&-2-boys tent. Walls can be adjusted somewhat by raising/lowering the center pole (but I like the bungee idea). No vestibule means all your gear goes inside. Super flexible design: net only, fly only, no-pole option if you tie it to an overhanging limb. Came with devise that lets you connect two hiking poles for your center pole. Super stable in high wind and easy to setup. Seam sealing was nothing to cry about. No heavy rain use but I'm not afraid!

Customer Service

Never needed to call. Redirected to Marmot site today while searching for Dana Design (the manufacturer).

I got this tent barely used online in 1999 or 2000 from someone who didn't like it. I had used a megamid for years and considered this a step up. There are a few modifications I made to the ten which improved it greatly for wet weather use. I use light weight bungies on the outside loops to keep it taught as the fabric stretches in the rain. I also attached velcro tabs on the inside of the fly, just underneath the outside loops, and also attached velcro to the corresponding area on the inner mosquito net. The combo of velcro and bungies at the guy line/roll open loops makes it far roomier inside (especially when it would be sagging.

I used this tent for a month in Wyoming Wind Rivers on a NOLS trip as well. While the tent is imperfect I found it an incredibly practical tent. The center pole design keeps the tent far lighter than most other 4 man tents (this tent is cosey but okay for 4 people as long as you keep your gear outside). Another big plus is its simplicity to set up. With 2 other people I have set up this tent in under 4 minutes during a rain storm.

Customer Service

Sealing this tent it a pain but we're talking a half hour of work. Not a big deal.

I didn't purchase this tent but I would without any thought. I used this tent for a month in Wyomings Wind River range. I used it via my NOLS expedition. This is probably the easiest tent to set up, pack, and haul when your on the go. I slept with 4 people in it mostly. Very comfy, rain proof. Some morning mist but if your not a whiner then its not a problem. The mosquitoes loved the top when the fly was on. Serviced it when we got back to base very easy to seal clean and maintain. Grade A expedition tent.

The Nuk Tuk is not the perfect tent, but it has many desireable features. If you purchase this tent, you'll probably appreciate the available space and different set-up options. The tent shelters three adults and gear sufficiently, but four adults would probably be too tight. I bought the tent as a spacious two-man abode for backpacking and a suitable family tent for my wife and toddler son. I love the headroom and room for sprawling. I purchased the optional adjustable pole, an item that allows me to pitch the tent so it is snug against the ground or elevated six or eight inches depending on the weather. The mesh liner keeps the bugs out in the warm months, and for those fall or spring trips the fly works fine by itself. It's not the best wet weather tent, but I attached some shock cord loops to the side loops that keep everything pretty taut without being too heavy. I truly appreciate being able to step in as opposed to crawling in like I have to on most other tents.

Customer Service

I've not used them. I don't really foresee any problems with the tent's materials (other than those sorry pegs it shipped with, but I've not bought or used a tent that came with quality pegs to begin with, either) or manufacture, though.

1. This tent takes forever to seam seal! There are 9 seams running the length of the fly up and down. The body of the tent requires the entire perimeter and a seam down the middle be seam sealed. For the money this tent costs, I would expect at least a few of these to come factory heat-sealed. 2. The stakes that come with this tent are good stakes, but not good for this tent. Both the tent body and fly have big loops. Once you put the tent body on the included y-pegs, there is no room for the notch on the peg to also grip the fly. 3. In the rain, this tent sags horribly. It basically requires repitching the tent all over again. I set it up very tight in nice weather only to have the walls sagging in on me and puddles forming on the fly at the base in a 60 minute rain. Overall, I'm disappointed in the tent. Based on the other reviews in on this website I was excited about getting my new tent. Because it costs so much, I can't afford to get another tent (and since I already seam sealed the tent, it is unreturnable). I will be glad to get rid of this thing and buy a tent that is better built.

Customer Service

I have a Dana Design Terraplane X pack that I called and asked about getting some replacement buckles. They promised to mail them out but that was a month ago and I haven't heard from them.

I have owned several small backpacking tents and wanted a 3-4 person tent that I could use for myself along with my 10 and 12 year old children. For us 3 it is perfect and a little tight for 4 people but ok. I bought an older model and had to seam seal it myself. Every time we have used it we have only taken the fly and the shadow. The space to wt. ratio with this set up is outstanding. Last summer we got caught in a 2 day rain storm backpacking along the Olympic coast. With just the fly and the shadow it kept us as dry as any double wall tent I have used under similar circumastances. With the two roof vents open there was minimal condesation. I can't say enough about this tent. It is one of the best pieces of equipment I have ever owned.

Customer Service

I haven't had to use customer service other than to ask Dana Designs some questions when I was trying to make a purchase decision about the tent. They were extremly friendly and most helpful.

We were looking for a tent for 2 adults and 2 kids plus packs and 2 dogs. The wieght to room ratio can''t be beat as far as I can tell. The tent can sweat some but until the kids are old enough for their own tent it''s the one. We also carry two Dana packs w/no complaints.

Customer Service

Never had to use. That says alot.

First off, I got a honey of a deal on used (2 night Nuk Tuk...at $85 I can''t complain about much). This said, I can profess that the Nuk Tuk is an outstanding tent or the weight, floor space, and quality. As one reviewer noted the fly somehow becomes soggy on rainy/foggy nights and makes contact with the mesh walls and causes condensation to make it''s way into the tent. To prevent, not eliminate, when you pitch it make sure you get the tent body and fly as taught and possible and be prepared. Three people have ample room and 4 is pushing it, due to the low slung/profile of the walls...you are basically in a square tee-pee. Also be prepared in cold weather or winter camping...the mesh walls are great for assuring cool summer camping and star gazing but the offer no insulating power and makes for a drafty night sleep. To combat this, just make sure you have O*F bag and you''ll sleep like a baby. I use both the Dana center pole ($35) and a Leki pole depending upon the trip. It''s a 4 out 5.

Awesome tent, best i have ever used(other than bibler). I work in a backpacking shop, and reserched for along time before making this purchase. I am glad i got the Nuk Tuk. 4 person is pushing it, but possible. But 3 people and complete gear is easy. i love it and can''t say enough good things. One thing though if its humid/foggy when you go to sleep, makesure the vents are totally open or the snow flaps are up, or its gonna rain in the tent in the morning.

Customer Service

I wanted the green one, but they were all out and normally companies don''t go out of their way for employee purchases, but Dana tracked it down in green and got it for me.
