highs: Cheap, light, somewhat durable, breathes well.

lows: no extra space inside, close quarters make for a hot tent in summer.

Buy this tent if you need cheap reliable storm protection. However, be warned: After living in this tent for several extended trips, I sleep on a tarp as often as I can now.

This is makes a nice solo tent. Packs small and is reasonably light. It is quite tight for 2 people although it will work in a pinch. The rain fly doesn't cover the rear of the tent very well so on windy, rainy nights the rear vent needs to be closed most of the way. This results in poor ventalation. Other than that, it kept me completely dry in a 12 hour downpour. Price is great for the quality.

The timberlite is a decent backpacking tent. The price is definately right (less than $200), but I don't like the A-frame style. It is very confined for two people. It does work well, though, if you're going solo and want to keep your gear inside with you. There is an optional vestible that adds weight and a little space, but it's still small for a two person tent.

I have had my Timberlite for 7 years now. It's lite, easy to setup and it's durable. The two downsides are:

1. The inside of the rain fly collects a fair amout of condensation which causes the tent walls to stick to the rain fly.

2. It's cramped with two adults (maybe that's the price to pay for having a lite tent.)

Great Value tent. I used it over the summer in Bolivia, while climbing, so I can say it is very durable. We had some very strong winds at 5,500m. without any problems. Easy to set up. Very light for the durability that you get. I recommended it.

My wife requested this tent as a college graduation gift seven years ago because she and a friend had used it on a trip to Maine and loved it. It served us well during many wet seasons in the mountains of Virginia. We've had no problems with it al all. The best things about this tent are the light weight, pack size, weather tightness, durabilty and the very few seams to seal. On the down side the five poles plus the two awning poles (the older version without the vestiblue) are a little cumbersom and it's very cramped for two adults. Now that we know a lot more about tents we are currently looking for a little larger dome tent- more vertical room and less poles. It's been hard to find a tent that is as light weight, durable, and as great a deal as the Timberlite 2. I have no problems recomending this tent to a solo backpacker or 2 smaller sized people. Perfect for Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts.

Good Tent. Packs small. Pretty light. Well built. Inexpensive to boot. Would buy another in a heartbeat. Retape all the seams and your good to go. Handle a torrent awesome!. I have never spent a wet night in this tent. Hot in the summer though.

Customer Service

Haven't had to call them in 2 years of use. If you build something good you don't really need customer service.

Ugh. I'm not as enamoured of this tent as others seem to be. Set up correctly, it can be very stable in high winds. I found it very helpful to use Sierra quick-clips to add guy points to both sides of the fly.

Setting it up is a bit of a pain. Both of the short aluminum poles that extend the fly from either end cracked from the stress.

As for liveable space, there ain't any. You can't really sit up in it. Not a happy place to be holed up in a storm, especially if there are two of you.

There are lots of light, two-person tents out there these days that provide more useable space. This was a nice concept that didn't work.

Overall, I liked this tent pretty well. Fairly light, good weather protection. Easy set-up/take-down. I used the two person version and it was fine for me. I think I would have to be pretty cozy to put another soul in there though.
