I purchased my Kelty Cylclone 2 at an internet auction site for (what I think) is the great price of $150. I've used it in a variety of conditions from hot to wet and windy. The only disappointment I have had was when I used it on a snow-camping expedition - clearly something Kelty didn't have in mind when designing this 3-season tent. On a bicycle camping trip to the B.C. Selkirks last year I was able to compare my tent with several others in our group and was pleased with the choice I had made. Not only was my tent one of the easier to erect, but also had superior ventilation and the vestibules were large enough to keep my bike under cover. There are less bulky, and lighter tents of the market but the Kelty Cyclone has the right mixture of size, value, and ease of use that works for me.

Customer Service

I've yet to experience Kelty's customer service, but after reading some of the reviews about it I'm going to approach them warily.

I recently purchased the Kelty Cyclone Convertible-2. I have only used it once, and have been pleased by it's performance. The conditions I encountered were as follows: 40 degrees, winds constant at 10-15, gusting to 25-30. I had the tent pretty well "guyed-down", so I didn't feel much wind at all. The tent stayed completely dry and had ample room for 2 big backpackers(keeping the gear in the 2 large vestibules). The tent sets up pretty quickly, and seems, so far, to be pretty durable, but I'll let you know by this fall.

I earlier raved about the ccylone-2 tent? Well I'm into my second year with this hunk of junk and just got a "new" rain-fly from kelty with double stitched reinforced stitching at the lash points and quick clips where the rain-fly goes on?
WHY.. Cause the rain-fly itself actually started to rip where it was double stiched where the stress areas are when you tighten it down once clipped into the tent?
Fellow campers, this should of never, never happened?
I'm now soo utterly disappointed with Kelty? Customer service was real casual about okay Mr. Hart we'll repair or fix it just calm down mentallity? Screw that? I paid 269.00 full retail price for this tent and after 1 1/2 years of mild use the fly started ripping at clip points? totally outrageous?
Well say hello to Walrus tents cause I'll never buy another Kelty for outdoor rough use!
I just bought a Walrus Terramotto and this tent rocks and it is four season converible and weighs less than the cyclone and costs less than the cyclone?
I got even madder and replaced my one kelty pack with a Lowe Alpine and replaced my nephews Jr Tioga with a 2500 ci Lowe Alpine? Within the next year i'll replace all this kelty garbage and then sell it off to unsuspecting kelty innocents and be on my way?
I'm sorry Kelty but you guys srewed up not me!

Customer Service

Yes, they were really casual like okay we'll fix it no biggie just mail it in, agghhh?
I was like flipping out on the phone and the guy was like a marriage counselor trying to ease my pain by overly stating they'll fix or relace it? My gripe was the tear and area of failure in the first place? The new fly sent to me was reinforced at the clip points with more nylon strapping and double stitching over this also? why perhaps wasn't this done in the first place>>>>>

Got this tent cuz it was on sale and I've never been happier. Really is a 3-season tents unlike some I've seen. Stong, free-standing, and looks great too!

Picked up this tent this summer to try backpacking with my two boys (ages 9 and 7). Much cheaper than the Marmot and TNF tents I looked at with build quality completely satisfactory for my uses. Unlike other two person tents I looked at this and saw that it had plenty of room for two adults or as in our case one adult and two kids. There is plenty of room under the fly for the packs. Packs small, reasonably light, easy access from both sides because of the two large doors, very comfortable use in the White Mountains (temps in the 30's at night). I have not used it in high winds but it can be guyed down quite nicely so I don't think it would be a problem.

I have owned this tent for a little over a year. Got it on sale and it has been perfect for when my girlfriend and I go out together. Plenty of room for both of us and our packs (under the rainfly). We even had room for a stray dog we found on a trip to Vermont (we couldn't find his owner so he lives with us now, we call him Moosie).

Never had trouble setting it up, even in wind, and it stayed up during a windy night and day with no problems.

I highly recommend this tent.

Good Value, though I have ahd to have a friend in the awning business restich some similar material over the stress points to fortify the places where the tent is staked to the ground. I did this repair on my own since the repair was free but would have sent it back to Kelty had the freebie not been available. I like the light color fly and tent, double doors, double and roomy vestibules and the overall roominess even for my 6'3" frame. Pack weight and size is certainly acceptable given the three pole stability and strength. The windows are novel and ventilation even in Florida humidity is ok. First night was a rainy one and the Cyclone passed with flying colors.

Customer Service

Kelty has been responsive.Over the last 3 years I purchased 30 Kelty tents for our Scout Troop. In every service instance Kelty has responded to make things right.

Great tent. Awesome prices can be found. Can't beat the value for the price.

I lived in this tent for 40-50 days last year. 10 were in a row. Have not had one problem, ever. Sets up real easy. Breakdown is also easy. If you set it up correctly with respect to the wind, ventilation is outstanding. The windows in the fly rock. They make getting started in the morning easier, and if things do happen to get clammy inside, they let in the sun, so it dries quicker!

Overall, the best tent value I have seen for the money. If some people have paid too much, that's their fault. Even at the suggested retail price, this tent compares with all the other 3 seasons I have had experience with. Some of my friends have had some fancy hardware, and a lot of it was not as stable as this tent. Find it online for a cheap enjoyable investment.

Also, in response to the guy who needed a new fly: Seems like you overstressed the guy-out points a little too much, and they replaced it. What's the problem with that?
